Step-by-Step Guide to Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
- Season The Spuds: Brush the outside of each potato with the olive oil and sprinkle both sides with salt.
- Cook: Bake in a 400 degree Fahrenheit preheated air fryer basket for 25 minutes on 1 side. Flip the potato and continue to air fry for another 20 to 25 minutes.
- Fluff With A Fork: Use a sharp knife to slice down the center of each potato and fluff the inside with a fork.
- Serve: Garnish with butter and fresh cracked pepper. Serve while hot. Enjoy!
How Long to Cook Your Baked Potatoes in the Airfryer
Depending on the size of your potatoes, cook them in the air fryer at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes. To check if your potatoes are fully cooked, insert a kitchen knife into the center of each potato. If the knife goes in easily, your potatoes are done. If the knife does not go in easily, continue cooking in 5-minute increments until the potatoes are fully cooked and fork tender.
Serving Suggestions

Baked potatoes pair perfectly with Lemon Chicken, salmon, or even hamburgers and hotdogs. If you feel more like steak and potatoes, serve them alongside my Garlic Butter Steak Bites, Pork Chops or Salisbury Steak.
Tips for the Best Baked Potatoes in Air Fryer
- Wash And Dry Well: Make sure to wash and dry your potatoes with paper towels. Excess moisture on the skins of the potatoes can cause them to steam instead of crisping up; we’re going for hat crispy, golden texture!
- Cook To Crisp: Do not overcrowd your air fryer. If the basket is too crowded, the potatoes will not get the crispy outside you crave. If you have a small air fryer, simply cook in two batches.
- Adjust The Time And Temp: All air fryers are different. I used the Cosori Air fryer for this recipe. You may have to adjust the cooking time and temperature if you have a different model.
- Use Parchment Paper: You can line your air fryer basket with parchment paper, but if your model requires preheating, do not line your air fryer during this process.
- Pierce The Potatoes: You can use a fork to poke holes in your potatoes before cooking them in an air fryer. This will allow the steam to escape and helps to prevent the potato from splitting when air frying.
- Forget The Foil: You should not wrap the potatoes in aluminum foil before air frying or you will end up with soggy skin. Simply skip the foil, and season with olive oil and salt instead.
Variations and Toppings for Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
There are so many ways to season or stuff your spud to make it a satisfying meal or side dish to serve with dinner!
- Choose Classics: Top your baked potato with the basics, like butter, sour cream, chives or green onions, cheddar cheese, and bacon bits.
- Serve With Sauce: Serve your baked potato with some ketchup, a dollop of sour cream, Ranch dressing, hot sauce, Fireball BBQ sauce, salsa, or opt for Greek yogurt as a healthier option.
- Swap Seasonings: Make your own blend of savory spices with cayenne, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. You can also sprinkle some smoked paprika, rosemary, Everything but the Bagel seasoning, or any herbs you prefer for extra flavor.
- Serve Them Sweet: You can add a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar or top with marshmallows and brown sugar for sweeter spuds.
- Load With What You Love: Load your baked potato with pulled pork or chicken, chili, roasted vegetables, guacamole , black beans, spinach and feta, or your favorite taco toppings (my taco potatoes make a complete meal). How to Store and Reheat Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat the baked potatoes, bake in the air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes until heated through. You can also reheat in the microwave for a few minutes, but remember that the skin will not be as crispy.
