Ingredients

  • Graham crackers: Feel free to use use honey, cinnamon or even chocolate graham crackers in this recipe.
  • Hershey’s Symphony Chocolate Bar
  • Easter Bunny Peeps: You can use chicks or eggs if you prefer.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Seasonal S’mores: You can easily change out the Peeps bunnies to suit any holiday or season. Make this recipe with trees or snowmen for Christmas during the winter, or pumpkins and ghosts for Halloween. They even have themed peeps like Birthday Peeps.
  • More Marshmallows: Instead of Peeps, feel free to make your s’mores with any kind of marshmallow. There are “Stacker-Mallows” which are wide, flat marshmallows made for s’mores, regular marshmallows, jumbo-sized marshmallows, mini marshmallows, colored marshmallows, special flavored marshmallows, etc.
  • Change The Chocolate: You can use any milk or dark chocolate for this recipe. Dark chocolate helps even out the sweetness a little but it doesn’t melt as evenly as milk chocolate so the outside may be runny when the inside is still hard.
  • Savory S’mores: Instead of using the classic graham cracker to make these s’mores, you can swap the sweet cookie for savory Saltines, Ritz crackers, Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps, Pringles, or Potato chips.
  • Sweet S’mores Swaps: Instead of using graham crackers to make these s’mores, you can use your favorite cookies, like Oreos, Fudge-Striped Cookies, Chip’s Ahoy Cookies, etc. to make your sandwich.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best chocolate to use for s’mores?

If you are looking for classic s’mores flavor you will want to use milk chocolate. Dark chocolate helps even out the sweetness a little but it doesn’t melt as evenly as milk chocolate, so the outside may be runny when the inside is still hard.
You can also mix it up and use white chocolate, Nutella, or Reeses peanut butter cups.

Do I have to use bunny Peeps for this recipe?

While I love using Peeps for this recipe because they are colorful and fun for Easter, you can easily swap them for any holiday, like Christmas Trees, Ghosts or any other Peeps shape that you prefer.
You can buy Peeps at a huge discount after most holidays and stock them to make these delicious S’mores any time.
Peeps work just like marshmallows in this recipe so if you can’t find Peeps or don’t have any left after the holidays, feel free to substitute regular marshmallows or even mix it up and use a jumbo marshmallow or some mini-marshmallows to make a quick and easy s’more.

What happens to Peeps when they are heated?

When these Peeps are broiled or heated in the microwave, the outside gets a nice caramelized flavor like crème brûlée and the inside is gooey and soft. Delicious!

Can I freeze my Peeps S’mores?

No, you cannot freeze Peeps S’mores. When you put a marshmallow in the freezer, the water freezes even though it is part of the gel, causing the marshmallow to become hard. When you heat it up again, the water melts and the marshmallow softens.
