What is an Instant Pot?

Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about Instant Pots, or maybe you snagged a good deal on one over Black Friday. But, maybe you’re still asking yourself, “What exactly is it?” or perhaps you’re a little bit nervous to give it a try!

An Instant Pot is a kitchen accessory that looks very similar to a crockpot. However, it’s much more powerful than that! It is capable of doing the job of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, and more!

Instant Pots come with preset programs that are designed to cook your food to perfection. They can cook a huge variety of foods. They are seriously like a magic gadget that makes your life in the kitchen so much easier.

Tips for Using an Instant Pot

There is no end to the list of amazing recipes you can make using your Instant Pot. But, in order to do so, it’s important that you actually know how to use your Instant Pot.

While it’s not overly complicated, it does take a bit of getting used to. Here are a few tips that I wish I’d known when I started out.

Instant Pot Tip 1: Make sure to use at least a ½ cup of liquid when pressure cooking. Since the pressure cooker on your Instant Pot uses steam to build the pressure that cooks your food, you will need to have enough liquid inside to create this pressure. You can use water, but you can also use different liquids to add extra flavor.

Instant Pot Tip 2: You can use multiple features when cooking on the same meal. In this Instant Pot Wings recipe you will actually use both the pressure cooker, and saute mode! You don’t have to stick to just one setting for each cooking session.

Instant Pot Tip 3: It’s a good idea to add about 10-15 minutes on to your meal planning and cooking time, because it will likely take that long for your Instant Pot to build up the necessary pressure.

Tips for Making Chicken Wings in an Instant Pot

Here are a few tips and tricks I picked up along the way when making these Instant Pot Chicken wings. Hopefully, they will help you to do it like a pro on the very first try!

Pro-Tip 1: Be gentle when handling the baked chicken wings. When you cook them in the Instant Pot they will turn out nice and juicy and soft. In order to keep the meat from falling off the bone or losing the tasty skin that covers the wings, you’ll need to handle them with care.

Pro-Tip 2: The wings won’t turn out super crispy in the Instant Pot. In order to get that crispy wing you’re looking for, it’s important not to skip the broiling step in the instructions above! It’s one extra step, yes. But, it’s easy and it is totally worth it!

Pro-Tip 3: If you’re really in a crunch for time, you don’t have to use a homemade sauce, and you could instead choose to use a store-bought sauce. Although, I will say that the homemade sauce is so much better!!
