Dress Up Your Dessert With a Graveyard Chocolate Cheesecake Dip

Now that my kids are too old for costumes and I no longer have to stress about the dress, I’ve decided instead to focus on dessert. But when the scariest thing during Halloween is trying to figure out what to make, this simple Graveyard Chocolate Cheesecake Dip recipe is always a deliciously simple way to create a decadent treat (it’s similar to the classic dirt pudding, but in Halloween form).

The base of this dip is a smooth and creamy chocolatey dip that tastes like a heavenly combination of brownie batter and chocolate cheesecake. Crushed Oreos create the look of “graveyard” dirt and Milano cookies with a scattering of candy add to the festive scene.

Get creative with your toppings and choice of dipping vehicles–spoon licking is welcome as long as you don’t double dip!

Ingredients / Shopping List

  • Cream cheese
  • Salted butter: If you decide to use unsalted butter, add an extra pinch of salt. This helps cut through the sugar.
  • Cocoa powder
  • Heavy cream: Whole milk or half and half are great options to use if you don’t have heavy cream.
  • Chocolate syrup: You can switch this out for caramel syrup instead.
  • Powdered sugar
  • Chocolate sandwich cookies (Oreos): Oreos are usually used for this, but you can use any brand. I recommend the original Oreos, but you can try a different flavor for fun!
  • Milano cookies: Any cookie that could be used as a “gravestone” could work here (Nutter Butters will work great too!).
  • Black decorating icing (optional): It’s best to use the icing that comes in a tube for easy writing.
  • Candy pumpkins (these Halloween candy bones would be super cute too!)

Substitutions and Additions

  • Decorate Your Dip: You can use any Halloween themed candy to decorate your graveyard–this is a fun activity for kids. Use Halloween Peeps, candy corn, candy eyeballs, tombstones, sprinkles, or any other spooky-looking candy to create a festive scene.
  • Customize Your Creation: Feel free to replace the Halloween decorations with your favorite toppings to create your own custom-theme dip.

Tips

You can use any serving dish you’d like for this treat, but I think it is “scariest” when served in a non-see-through bowl. That way your guests cannot see the treats that may be hiding under the graveyard.

Storage Tips

  • To Store: To store your dip, cover tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • To Freeze: To freeze your dip, put it in a freezer-safe container and freeze it for a few months.
