A mug cake is like a miracle, microwavable cake for one–no oven, no-bake, no fuss. It’s simply crushed Oreo cookie crumbs mixed with cream (or your favorite milk) in a mug, microwaved for 80 seconds, and fancied up with your favorite toppings. This is the fastest and easiest way to sample a slice or take a few bites when you don’t want to bake an entire cake.

How to Make an Oreo Mug Cake in the Microwave

With just 2 ingredients, it is so quick and easy to make a moist, decadent dessert that tastes delicious! And it’s ready in 80 seconds! It’s perfectly portioned for a single serving sweet treat.

  1. Add Oreos to a food processor to create a fine crumb consistency.
Pro Tip: You can also place your Oreos in a small plastic bag and smash them or crush them directly in the mug if you don’t mind your cake having little chunks of Oreo in it.

  2. Add cookie crumbs to the mug and pour in the cream.
  3. Stir to combine.

  4. Microwave on high for 75-90 seconds.
Pro Tip: The cake is done when it is set and bubbly. It should loosely resemble a soft cake sponge. If it still seems a little wet, give the cake a little stir to mix in the liquid. It won’t look exactly like cake once it’s done.

Tips

  • If you mash your Oreos until they are as a very fine consistency, your cake will comes out nice and smooth.
  • If you want to make more than one mug cake, you should cook them separately in the microwave.
  • For fluffier mug cake, use ¼ teaspoon baking powder when you add the cream.
  • Don’t worry about the Oreos sticking to the side of the mug. The extra stuffing in the Double Stuf Oreos creates a little extra “oil” so that your Oreo Mug Cake doesn’t get crusty.

Storage Tips

  • To Store: This mug cake should be eaten right away–I do not recommend storing it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I store my Oreo Mug Cake to eat later?

I do not recommend storing this mug cake, especially since this recipe only makes enough for one person. Also, the oils tend to separate if you leave this cake out too long, which is normal but doesn’t look appetizing. However, if you need to store it, place it in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 24 hours.

How small should my Oreo crumbs be?

The smaller the crumbs of Oreo, the more “cake-like” the texture will be. However, I personally like the chunkier bits of Oreo, so I don’t stress about how much I crush the Oreos. In fact, that’s why I like to smash them straight in the mug with a spoon. It makes this Mug Cake that much easier to create.

Can I add mix-ins to my mug cake?

Yes, you can add your favorite mix-ins for extra texture and flavor. While you don’t want to add a lot, you can easily add a few additions. Some ideas include sprinkles, candy pieces, crushed cookies, mini chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or mint chips, and chopped nuts.

What size mug should I use for my Oreo Mug Cake?

This recipe is designed to fit in your standard 10-12 ounce coffee mug. When choosing a mug, make sure that it is microwave safe. This recipe isn’t designed for a travel mug that may have a stainless steel exterior.

Does this recipe fill up an entire mug?

This doesn’t fill up a whole mug with Oreo cake. In order to do so, you would need to double the recipe. However, this is very rich, so only using five Oreos is probably all you need to satisfy your chocolate cravings. Regardless, feel free to double the recipe if you want a whole mug worth of Oreo cake. If you decide to double the recipe, make sure to use a larger mug. If you have too much batter, it can overflow in the microwave.
