Golden Grahams Smores Bar

Golden Graham Smores Bars are filled with the same delicious milk chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallow staples as the traditional outdoor treat, but this super simple Golden Graham cereal bars recipe brings all the flavors indoors, without setting foot near a fire.

These Golden Graham Treat bars are ooey gooey, chewy, and crunchy and taste like the best bite of s’mores served Rice Krispie Treat style.

This dessert bar is the tastiest twist on 2 separate sweet treats, prepared in a single pan in only 5 minutes — when it’s too hot outside for open flames, there’s no reason to miss out on the fireside fun!

Substitutions and Additions

  • Cereal Swaps: I always make these Golden Grahams Smore Bars with the name-brand cereal, however, you don’t have to use the General Mills box. Feel free to use a generic version of graham cracker cereal or you can also break up graham crackers into small pieces and use those instead.
  • Choose Your Chocolate: To create the most authentic s’mores flavor, I like to use milk chocolate chips or Hershey’s brand chips in these bars. Semi-sweet chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white chocolate chips can also be used for a different taste.

How to Make Golden Grahams S’Mores Bars

  1. Make The Mixture: Add 2 bags of mini marshmallows to the melted butter until almost fully melted, then remove from the burner. Mix in more marshmallows and Golden Grahams cereal, add chocolate chips, and mix again.
  2. Pour In The Pan: Pour the mixture into the pan and flatten with parchment paper.
Pro Tip: You can spray the parchment paper with non-stick spray to ensure the mixture will not stick when flattening.
  3. Slice and Serve: Sprinkle remaining marshmallows, Golden Grahams, and chocolate chips on top and lightly press down. Cool completely before cutting with a sharp knife. Serve and enjoy!
Pro Tip: Spraying the knife with non-stick spray will make cutting easier.

Tip From Our Recipe Developer

  • Keep the burner on low so you do not overheat the marshmallows. If your rush the melting process, you’ll end up with hard, inedible treats. Be patient and keep stirring the marshmallows until they completely melt and come together in a sticky mixture.
  • I like to reserve a portion of the cereal, chocolate chips, and marshmallows to sprinkle on top of these bars at the end–it not only makes them prettier, but they don’t melt into the hot mixture.
  • Be sure to let these Golden Graham S’mores completely cool before cutting them into squares so they are properly set up.
  • You can spray the knife with non-stick spray to make cutting the bars much easier.

Storage

  • To Store: Store these bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I store my s mores bars?

These Golden Grahams cereal bars will keep for up to 4 days, covered, at room temperature. They are best eaten within 1-2 days after making them.

Can I use a Hershey’s milk chocolate bar instead of chocolate chips?

Yes, you can use a Hershey’s bar instead of chocolate chips in this recipe, but the milk chocolate will need to be chopped into small pieces.
Keep in mind that a Hershey’s chocolate bar is softer than chocolate chips, so it will melt when mixed into the cereal mixture more than chips will.
I prefer to use chocolate chips in this recipe simply because they hold their shape better and you get a taste of chocolate in every bite.

How many servings does this recipe make?

This recipe makes 12 giant squares or 15 more reasonably sized square treats.

What is the easiest way to spread the cereal mixture into the pan?

I like to use a sheet of parchment paper or waxed paper to spread the cereal mixture into the pan. I’ve found that if I have a large piece of parchment paper or waxed paper on top of the mixture, it is easier for me to use my hands to flatten it into an even layer.
