Garlic Butter Steak Bites Ingredients

  • Steak—We used sirloin steak cut into small bite-sized pieces. Sirloin works best for these bites. However, you can also use a more tender cut like New York strip steak, ribeye, filet, or flank steak.
  • Oil – Olive oil is best for this recipe.
  • Salt & pepper – You can adjust to your preference but I used 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of cracked black pepper.
  • Butter—I typically use unsalted butter in most of my recipes. If you only have salted butter, you will want to reduce the additional salt you add to the recipe.
  • Garlic – You can use fresh garlic cloves, but many times, I will make it easier by buying the minced garlic in the jar (I know it is cheating!)
  • Italian Seasoning—pick your favorite brand—they are all pretty delicious! I sometimes will add in some thyme and rosemary because they add such a nice flavor.
  • Parsley—go fresh and finely chop it.

How to make Garlic Butter Steak Bites

  1. Toss the cubed steak in the salt and pepper.
  2. In a large frying pan (or a cast iron skillet), heat olive oil over high heat. Add a single layer of steak to the pan. 
  3. Fry steak in batches for about 4-5 minutes. Remove and set aside. Pro-Trip: I like to not stir the steak bites for the first 1-2 minutes to get a good sear before turning it over.
  4. Add butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning over medium-high heat in the same frying pan. Cook for about 2 minutes.
  5. Pour the butter mixture over the steak bites and toss to coat. 
  6. Sprinkle parsley to suit your taste on the top to garnish and serve (I sometimes will sprinkle with some green onion as well!)

Tips & Variations

  • You don’t want to add all of the steak to your frying pan all at once. Work in batches so that you cook single layers of steak, and continue this until all of the steak is cooked.
  • You can cook the steak to your preferred temperature. I like my steak bites more well-done, but my husband prefers them medium. I usually cook one well-done batch for me and one medium for him.
  • To make cleanup super easy, I recommend using the same frying pan to cook your steak and make the butter mixture. I love a good one-pan meal because this means there are only a couple of dishes to clean up! 
  • If you like things with a kick, try sprinkling them with red pepper flakes.

Serving Suggestions

  • As an appetizer: They are the perfect flavorful and light snack to begin any meal. Just throw them on a platter and stick some toothpicks in each one. They are the perfect finger food!
  • As a protein: You could serve them as protein on a hearty salad (this is my favorite!)
  • As the main course for a meal: With your favorite sides such as mashed potatoes, broccoli, asparagus, or over rice.

Proper Storage

In the Fridge: Let the leftover steak bites cool completely before storing them. Place them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. For the best results, reheat only what you need to avoid drying out the meat.

In the Freezer: To freeze, allow the steak bites to cool and transfer them to a freezer-safe container or bag. Remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. They can be frozen for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator before warming them up using your preferred method.

Reheating

  • Oven: Preheat to 300°F. Place the steak bites in a baking dish and cover with foil to prevent drying. Heat for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Microwave: Place steak bites on a microwave-safe plate, cover with a damp paper towel, and heat in 20-second intervals until warmed through.
  • Stovetop: Heat a skillet over medium heat, add a touch of butter or oil, and warm the steak bites for a few minutes, stirring occasionally.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds sirloin steak
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped

Instructions
 

  • Chop steak into cubes about 2 inches in size. Toss steak in salt and pepper.

  • Place olive oil in a large frying pan and heat over high heat.

  • Place some steak in frying pan – only until you have a single layer of steak. Don’t add all of it at once – work in batches so that you’re cooking single layers until all the steak is cooked. Fry each batch for about 4-5 minutes until thoroughly cooked. As each batch is cooked, place in a serving dish.
  • Once all the steak is cooked and in the serving dish, use the same frying pan to prepare the butter mixture. Place butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning into frying pan over medium-high heat and cook until melted and garlic is slightly browning (no more than 2 minutes).
    ¼ cup unsalted butter, 5 cloves garlic, ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Pour butter mixture over steak bites and toss to coat evenly. Sprinkle parsley over to garnish.

Jenn’s Notes

Store your bites in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. Be sure to pour all of the garlic butter in with the leftovers as well.
