How to make Christmas Trees using Pretzels
There really is not much to making these Christmas Tree Pretzel Sticks. All you need is a few ingredients and some kitchen supplies:
- A baking sheet
- Parchment Paper
- A squeeze bottle with a number 2 tip (you can get from Michaels – Sugarbelle line is what I used)
Ingredients:
- Mini pretzel sticks
- Green candy melts
- Coconut oil
- Christmas sprinkles
We recommend using a double boiler to melt the candy (although I know some will do it on 40% power in the microwave).
How do you melt chocolate or candy in a double boiler?
It is easy, just fill the lower pan with water to below level of the top pan. Heat water to a simmer, then remove from heat. Put Candy Melts and coconut oil in the top pan and set in position on lower pan. Stir constantly, without beating, until smooth and completely melted.
Next, carefully scoop the melted candy melt into the decorating bottle.
Then, place about 10 pretzel sticks onto the parchment paper Using the squeeze bottle, pipe the details of a Christmas tree onto the pretzel.
Sprinkle some Christmas sprinkles onto the chocolate (you could even add a candy star on top of each tree to top it off!)
Allow the chocolate to harden for 2 hours before carefully removing from parchment paper and enjoying!
Why use coconut oil when melting chocolate
The coconut oil will help keep the candy melts or chocolate thin so they are easy to shape into the Christmas tree. Also, sometimes the candy melts, when melted, can get clumpy. The coconut oil will help keep them thin and smooth and easier to work with.
I know others swear by Crisco oil or (affiliate) Wilton’s EZ Thin Dipping Aid (which I believe is basically edible paraffin wax.)
