Easy Franks Buffalo Chicken Dip

Our baked Buffalo Chicken Dip is an easy-to-make mixture of cream cheese, shredded chicken, blue cheese, cheddar, and spicy wing sauce; it tastes like a cheesy, creamy version of buffalo chicken wings in the form of a delicious, scoopable dip.

This easy buffalo chicken dip recipe begins by shredding chicken breasts (of course you can substitute canned chicken to make it even faster and more affordable), then blending it with cheese and buffalo sauce, and baking it until golden brown.

A chicken wing dip is a low-carb snack and is considered keto friendly if you don’t eat it with crackers or chips – scoop it with celery and carrot sticks or slices of veggies.

Few appetizers bring friends together like a hot, mouthwatering dish that mimics your favorite wings flavors that’s baked right into the buffalo dip!

Franks Red Hot Buffalo Chicken Dip ingredients

  • Cream cheese
  • Blue cheese crumbles
  • Shredded chicken breasts
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Franks buffalo wing sauce: Make sure you are using buffalo wing sauce (like Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wings Sauce) and not just hot sauce.

Franks Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe substitutions

  • Choose Your Chicken: Feel free to cook and shred your own chicken breasts, or for an even easier chicken wing dip recipe, use pre-shredded roasted chicken from the deli section of the grocery store, rotisserie chicken, or canned chicken instead.
  • Replace The Blue Cheese: You can replace the blue cheese crumbles with Ranch dressing or sour cream. Ranch provides a creamy and tangy flavor that complements the spicy buffalo sauce, similar to the tanginess of blue cheese. (please note, this may slightly change the texture)
  • Create Chicken Wonton Cups: Use this dip as a filling for wonton wrappers, egg roll wrappers or Scoops tortilla chips to create buffalo chicken wonton cups.
  • Mixing bowl
  • Hand mixer
  • 9×9 baking dish

Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe tips

  • You can adjust the spice level according to your preference. I found 3/4 cup of hot sauce added the perfect amount of heat, but feel free to add a cup or more if you like your food extra spicy.
  • Mix the cream cheese and chicken together until well combined before adding the other ingredients.
  • This dip can also be baked in an 8×8 dish.

What to serve with Frank’s Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe

Serve this appetizer with an assortment of vegetables and crackers. Some of my favorite ways to scrape every last scoop of buffalo chicken dip out of the dish include:

  • Tortilla chips
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Wheat Thins
  • Toasted French Bread
  • Pita chips
  • Bagel chips
  • Chicken wings

How to store Franks Red Hot Buffalo Chicken Dip

  • To Store: You can store the cooled Buffalo chicken dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
  • To Freeze: You can freeze Buffalo chicken dip for a few months, although I do not recommend it. Since cream cheese doesn’t freeze well, the texture might change after freezing and thawing.
  • To Reheat: Reheat in the oven by preheating it to 350°F (175°C), covering the dip with foil and baking for 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, microwave it in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, or gently reheat it on the stovetop in a saucepan. Be careful not to overheat; if needed, add a touch of milk or cream to restore consistency.

Frank’s Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe FAQs

Can I freeze buffalo chicken dip?

I do not recommend freezing this buffalo chicken dip. When reheated from frozen, the cream cheese mixture lacks the creamy texture you love and becomes grainy and less suitable for scooping.

Is this a low-carb, keto-friendly food?

Yes, this buffalo chicken dip is low carb and can fit perfectly into a keto diet plan. It’s packed with protein, cheese, and hot sauce, making it suitable for those counting their carbs.

How Can I Adjust the Heat/Spice Level of the Dip?

Increase Spice: Add more hot sauce or red pepper flakes to increase the heat. You can also include a bit of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
Decrease Spice: To make it milder, reduce the amount of hot sauce used or mix in a creamy ingredient like sour cream or cream cheese to balance the spiciness.
Remember, it’s always better to adjust the spice gradually, tasting as you go, until you achieve the desired level of heat that suits your preference.

Is there a Vegetarian Option for this Dip?

You can make a vegetarian version of buffalo chicken dip using cooked and shredded cauliflower or tofu instead of chicken. These alternatives can provide a similar texture and absorb the flavors of the buffalo sauce while keeping the dish vegetarian-friendly.

Do you eat buffalo chicken dip cold or hot?

Buffalo chicken dip is typically served hot, often baked or reheated until bubbly and warm, which helps meld the flavors together and keeps the cheese in a gooey, melted state for dipping.

How do you keep buffalo chicken dip from separating?

To prevent buffalo chicken dip from separating, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before mixing, blend them thoroughly to create a uniform mixture, and avoid overheating it while cooking, as high heat can cause the cheese and other dairy components to separate.
