Boozy Dole Whip in a glass

Ingredients

  • French vanilla ice cream
  • Pineapple juice
  • Frozen pineapple chunks
  • Spiced rum (I used Captain Morgan brand)
  • Garnish: Extra creamy spray whipped topping, pineapple wedge, and maraschino cherry with the stem.

Substitutions And Additions

  • Ice Cream Swap: I love making my Dole Whip with vanilla ice cream because it adds creaminess and some sweetness, but you can try replacing the ice cream with Cool Whip or pineapple sherbet. For a non-dairy alternative, try substituting a frozen banana and coconut milk for the ice cream.
  • Replace The Dark Rum: I used dark spiced rum for this recipe but a clear spiced rum will work just as well. You can also use coconut rum, like Malibu, for more of a tropical twist on the classic boozy dole whip. Or you can even try a combination of both spiced and coconut rum if you desire.
  • Blender
  • Cocktail glasses (I used ones that were 17.5 oz. capacity)

Tips From Our Recipe Developer

  • If you only plan on serving one at a time then you can easily cut this recipe in half for a single serving.
  • Any brand of vanilla ice cream will work in this recipe however I do recommend that you use a good quality brand. I find that the dairy alternative varieties don’t give this boozy dole whip the thick rich consistency that the full-fat, good quality, vanilla ice creams give.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dole Whip?

Dole Whip (also known as Dole Soft Serve) is a soft-serve dairy-free frozen dessert created by Dole Food Company in 1984. Disney Parks also has a recipe for a Dole Whip, that’s made with vanilla ice cream, pineapple juice, and frozen pineapple chunks.

Do I have to buy a large container of pineapple juice for this recipe?

I like to buy the 6 packs of the little 6 oz. cans of pineapple juice to keep on hand in my pantry for this recipe, and others.
My family does not drink pineapple juice and a large container would go to waste if I only used 6 ounces for this recipe.
Once opened, I find that the large containers do not keep for too long in the refrigerator but these little cans are shelf-stable so they work great in my home.

How many cups of frozen pineapple does this recipe call for?

A 16 oz. bag of frozen pineapple chunks is equal to approximately 2 ½ cups. If you buy your frozen pineapple chunks in bulk you can use a dry measuring cup and measure out about 2 ½ cups for this recipe.
