Variations / Options / Add-ins

  • TORTELLINI: You can use fresh or frozen tortellini in this recipe. The fresh tortellini will just take less time to cook. You can also use flavored tortellini, such as spinach tortellini, if you like.
  • PASTA SAUCE: I prefer to use a pasta sauce with mushrooms as it adds a great flavor, and I love mushrooms. But, any style pasta sauce will work. Roasted garlic is also a delicious option.
  • GROUND BEEF: Any kind of ground meat will work for this recipe. Chicken, turkey, pork, venison or even a meat alternative to keep it vegetarian would all work just fine!
  • SPINACH: I have seen people adding spinach to this recipe. Though I haven’t tried it myself, I love baked spinach and I’m willing to bet it’s a delicious addition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Make Baked Tortellini Ahead of Time?

Yes! This is a great dish to make ahead of time, especially if you plan to freeze it. It makes for a great freezer meal. Many times if I am making this I will double the batch and freeze one to pull out on a busy weeknight.

What to Serve with Baked Tortellini

While this meal is a complete dinner in itself, I do love to make a couple of sides to go along with it. Typically, I serve it with garlic bread and a side salad. My go-to garlic bread are these Easy Cheese Stuffed Garlic Rolls but my family also loves this Cheesy Pull-Apart Garlic Bread.
