The best jello shot recipe begins with a box of Jell-O, but when fused with alcohol until firm, they become the ultimate cocktail in a 2-ounce shot cup.

Each boozy bite of a pink lemonade jello shot is bursting with cool and refreshing fruity flavor; it’s the perfect sweet treat for adult parties, but not meant for kids.

How to Make strawberry Lemonade Jello Shots

  1. Make The Jello Mixture: Combine the jello powders and dissolve with boiling water. Stir in the cold water, vodka, and lemon juice.
  2. Fill: Arrange your shot cups on a moveable surface such as a baking sheet and fill each shot cup ¾ of the way full. Chill in the fridge for 2 hours or until solidified.
  3. Serve: Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream, a strawberry, and a lemon slice if desired, serve, and enjoy!

Tip From Our Recipe Developer

  • I like to line up my shot glasses on a flat, firm, moveable surface like a tray or cookie sheet. This makes it easier to move them back and forth from the fridge.
  • I use an injector to fill my shot cups because it’s just quicker and less messy. However, a pourable measuring cup works as well or even a turkey baster.
  • Do not garnish your jello shots unless you’re serving them right away. Do not store your jello shots overnight or for very long with the garnishes, or the garnishes get gross.
  • If you cannot find the 2-ounce plastic shot cups with lids (linked here), they may be labeled as condiment cups. These can be used interchangeably. You can use any shot cups you prefer but keep in mind that your servings may be different from this recipe.

Storage

  • To Store: You can keep these in the fridge, with the lids on, for about a week.
  • To Freeze: Do not freeze these jello shots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add more alcohol to my jello shots?

I wouldn’t go over the suggested amount of alcohol in this recipe. If you do, the shots will turn out thinner and will not be fully set up. If you’re ok with that and simply want a stronger shot, go for it. However, if you want them to set up right, don’t add extra alcohol.

How do you eat a jello shot?

To easily eat your jello shot, you may want to run either a knife or a toothpick along the inside of the plastic cup (some have even been known to use their finger). This will loosen the jello from the sides of the cup. Then squeeze the sides of the shot cups and give it a good slurp!

can I make jello shots in advance?

You can make your jello shots a few days ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator with the plastic lids that come with the package of shot cups. Garnish them just before you are ready to serve.

can I make jello shots without alcohol?

Yes, you can make jello shots without alcohol and serve them to your kids. To make these virgin jello shot, replace the vodka with cold water.
