Witch Hat Cookies Ingredients

  • Fudge-covered cookies – I used Fudge-covered Peanut Butter Filled Cookies to create my witch hats. Other great cookie options include Fudge Covered Oreos, Fudge Stripe cookies (turned upside down so the fudge is facing up), Fudge Covered Nutter Butters, and Grasshoppers. Any flat-based cookie will work, including chocolate chip cookies!
  • White frosting – any brand will work
  • Food coloring
  • Chocolate kisses
  • Mini yellow M&Ms

Substitutions and Additions

  • Create Various Colors. You can make your witch hats with any colored frosting. Make a whole tray of hats with different rings of colors, either matched with the mini M&M buckles or switched up for fun.
  • Customize Your Cookies: You can decorate your desserts with your favorite Halloween candies, sprinkles, icing, candy melts, and chocolate kisses or hugs.

How to Make Witch Hat Cookies

  1. Form The Colored Frosting: Add food coloring to the frosting and mix until the desired color is achieved.
  2. Assemble: Pipe a dollop of frosting in the center of each cookie and top with a chocolate kiss. Add one M&M “buckle” to the outer band of frosting. (Image 2,3 and 4)
Pro Tip: As you press down, the frosting will create a ring of color slightly larger than the kiss.
  3. Set And Serve: Allow the frosting to set for 15-20 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Tips For Making Witch Hat Cookies

  • The number of servings in this recipe will depend on the number of cookies in your packet. I used Great Value Fudge Covered Peanut Butter Filled Cookies containing 18 cookies.
  • You may have leftover frosting depending on how many cookies are in your packet. The frosting can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. Give the frosting a good mix before using it.
  • If you plan to use only one color to decorate your hats, you can buy a tube of pre-colored frosting to make these hats even easier to assemble.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best food coloring to use?

I recommend using gel food coloring as you need less product to achieve bright, vibrant colors. Some food colorings can cause an odd aftertaste in frosting, so the less you can use, the better.

Where should I store my cookies?

Ensure the cookies are stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight so the chocolate and frosting do not melt.
