Why We Love This White Castle Sliders Recipe
- Better than carry out White Castle hamburgers or the frozen sliders from the grocery
- Easy to make in the oven
- Makes a big batch all at once
- Top with your favorite burger toppings
Ingredients
- 12 dinner rolls
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp Better Than Bouillon Beef
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup yellow onion, finely chopped
- 10-12 Kraft American Cheese Slices, cut each slice into 4 squares
- 20-24 dill pickle chips
- ¼ cup water
- ⅛ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp ground black pepper
- Ketchup and mustard (optional)
Substitutions & Additions
- Bouillon: If you can’t get the Better Than Bouillon Beef, then you can use granulated beef bouillon in its place. Don’t make the sliders without this as they won’t have as much taste.
- Dill Pickle: If you aren’t a fan of dill pickle, there are a few things you can add in its place. You could try gherkin, cornichon (French pickled gherkin) or lime pickles, all of which will add a little something unique to the slider.
- Bread Rolls: For something a little different, try Hawaiian rolls in place of normal dinner rolls. These have a tropical taste due to the pineapple juice in the mixture.

How to Make Copycat White Castle Sliders Recipe
- Mix together the ground beef, bouillon, and garlic powder. Line a 9×13 baking sheet with parchment paper and add ground beef mixture, spreading it until it’s flat.
- Cut into 12 equal squares. Using the end of a spoon, create 5 holes in each patty.
- Place in the freezer for 3 hours. Remove the beef tray from the freezer and pull patties apart. Add onions to the bottom of the baking sheet. Add water to the onions.
- Place frozen patties on top of the onions and water. Sprinkle it with salt and pepper. Place in the oven for 10 minutes.
- Take the sheet out of the oven and place the bottom of a dinner roll on each patty. Then place the bottom of the dinner rolls staggered over the bottom pieces. Place the sheet back in the oven for 3 minutes.
- Take the sheet out and use a spatula to scoop up each patty with onions and the bottom bun attached. Add 3 cheese slices to each slider.
- Add optional condiments and serve the sliders immediately.
How to Store
Store everything separately in the fridge until you are ready to make the cheeseburgers. If you don’t want to use all of the cooked patties immediately, you can also store them in the fridge. If you have leftover sliders after they are cooked, simply store them in an airtight container and place them in the fridge.
You can also freeze any sliders that aren’t eaten. Pop them in a freezer-safe bag and make sure you use them within a month. Thaw them in the refrigerator before microwaving to reheat. To reheat your sliders place them in the microwave with a damp sheet of paper towel and cook on half power for around 1 minute 20 seconds for 2 sliders or until hot.
You have to try out these copycat sliders at your next party! They will be the perfect appetizer or meal. The burgers are so flavorful and delicious. Best of all, it’s so simple to make a big batch and feed a crowd with this slider recipe. Enjoy!

White Castle Sliders
Ingredients
- 12 dinner rolls cut in half
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Better Than Bouillon Beef
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup yellow onion finely chopped
- 10-12 Kraft American Cheese Slices cut each slice into 4 squares
- 20-24 dill pickle chips
- ¼ cup water
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- Optional: ketchup, mustard
Instructions
- In a large bowl add the ground beef, Better Than Bouillon Beef, and garlic powder. Mix together with a large spoon, or your hands until combined.
- Line a 9×13 baking sheet with parchment paper. Add the ground beef mixture and spread to the sides until it forms a flat even layer. Using a knife, cut into 12 equal squares (3×4: about the same size as the dinner rolls). Using the end of the spoon, create 5 holes in each patty.
- Place the ground beef baking sheet in the freezer for 3 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Remove ground beef baking sheet from the freezer and break patties apart. Throw away the parchment paper.
- Add the onions to the bottom of the baking sheet and spread evenly. Add ¼ cup water to the onions. Place the frozen beef patties directly on top of the onions and water. Sprinkle the ground beef with salt and pepper and then place in the oven and allow beef to steam cook for 10 minutes.
- Take the baking sheet out of the oven and place the bottom of each dinner roll on a hamburger patty. Place the tops of the dinner rolls in a staggered pattern over the bottom pieces of the dinner rolls.
- Place the baking sheet back in the oven and let cook for 3 minutes.
- Take the baking sheet back out of the oven and use a spatula to scoop up each meat patty with onions and bottom bun attached, and add 3 cheese slices to each slider.
- Add optional condiments: dill pickle chips, ketchup, mustard.
- Place the top bun on the condiments and serve sliders immediately.
Jenn’s Notes
- In The Refrigerator: Store leftover sliders in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. If you are preparing in advance, make sure to store everything separately in the fridge until you are ready to cook the cheeseburgers.
- In The Freezer: For longer storage, wrap the cooled and assembled sliders in aluminum foil or plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer bag. They can be frozen for up to 2-3 months. Thaw the in the refrigerator before reheating.
- To Reheat: To reheat your sliders place them in the microwave with a damp sheet of paper towel and cook on half power for around 1 minute 20 seconds for 2 sliders or until hot. You can also wrap them in foil and heat in a 350°F oven for 10–12 minutes.
- Make sure not to let the bottom of your buns touch the water or they’ll soak up the liquid.
- Finely chop the onions, spread them evenly on the pan, and then cook the patties on top of the onions. This will allow the steam to infuse the beef and buns with the signature slider flavor.
- Place the buns directly on top of the cooking patties. The steam from the onions and beef keeps the buns soft and moist while absorbing the flavor.
- Those five holes are not for decoration! They allow the burger to be cooked without flipping.
where does it say preheat the oven? I don’t see any of that. what temperature!!!
It clearly states in step 4 to preheat the oven to 450 degrees. I’m not sure this justifies a 1 star review.
will to try looks like cheaper than paying for it in store
Weโre big White Castle fans and there are none nearby. This was a really good copycat recipe! Only thing Iโd do different next time (and there will be a next time!!!) is only use 1/2 slice of cheese instead of 3/4 slice. Just a bit cheesy for our taste, otherwise wonโt change anything else.
Thank you for this recipe. can’t wait to try it. When I was a child we would travel to Kentucky from Indiana to visit relatives. we would always stop at the White Castle on our way there.
love these! very yummy! my husband and adult son both loved also.
CAN’T WAIT TO TRY ALL OF THRFSE OUT.
Must just be me since everyone else gives 5 stars. First, 1 lb didn’t really “fit” the 9×13 pan. Had to really stretch it out. Next, maybe added too much water (thought I added 1/4 cup), but patties came out rather wet. Also difficult to fit buns on top without having them hang over the edges of the pan. Not like what I see in the photos accompanying the recipe. Taste was “meh” and not nearly as good as the “real thing”. Edible (didn’t throw them away), but not great.
Jenn – My husband and I grew up in St. Louis. He worked at Steak N Shake all through high school and college. He and his buddy would get off at 2:00 AM and head to White Castle. Back then they wwere 12 for $1.00. He loves them – me not so much. Anyway, I made these last night. They don’t taste just like White Castle (which suits me fine) and they were delicious. Thank you for sharing.
Definitely I will try this recipe. I know my grandson will love it.
I have not tried the white castle sliders but the recipe looks delicious. I tried to print the recipe but could only get a 30 page version. Could you possibly send me a short version that I can print.
I am so sorry about that. What you want to do is go to the recipe card (you can scroll to it or hit the “jump to recipe” button. There you can select “print recipe” – this will just print the actual recipe and not the entire blog post.
