Chocolate Peppermint Patty Cookies
These Peppermint Patty cookies are a staple with my holiday baking. With just five ingredients needed, they are one of the easiest cookies that I make during this season. But, they definitely don’t fall short when it comes to their deliciousness.
The use of cake mix and cream cheese makes a soft and gooey cookie. Just looking at these, you’d never know that they are filled with a creamy peppermint patty! These are not only a hit when it comes to holiday sweets, but they also make for a great homemade gift to give.
P.S. I have to thank my friend Amy for the recipe inspiration!

How to Make Peppermint Patty Cookies

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Mix together cake mix, cream cheese, butter, and egg.
- Roll dough into 1 ½ tablespoon sized balls.
- Flatten one ball in your hand.
- Place one peppermint patty on top.
- Fold the dough around the patty, covering it completely.
- Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes.
- Cool slightly before serving.
An Easy Christmas Cookie Recipe
We love making them for Christmas Cookie Exchanges! Just spread some icing on top of the cookies. We love to crush some peppermint and sprinkle it on top!
Tips
- CREAM CHEESE & BUTTER: Both should be brought to room temperature so that they are soft and easy to mix into your cookie dough.
- I used a cookie scoop to help with shaping the dough balls for my cookies. You want to end up with about 20 cookie balls. The scoop helps keep them all even in size.
- When assembling the cookies, it’s important to make sure that the peppermint patty is completely covered by the dough! You don’t want the patty to leak out and make a mess all over the pan in the oven.
- SPRINKLES: A fun and easy way to make these cookies a bit more festive is to sprinkle them with red and green sanding sugar or holiday-shaped sprinkles.
How to Store Peppermint Patty Cookies
A common question is whether these cookies need to be stored in the fridge. They do not. They can simply be stored in an airtight container on the countertop for up to 5 days. However, you can also place them in the fridge. I prefer them chilled a bit. It really makes the peppermint flavor pop!
You can freeze these cookie for up to a month.

was wondering if the mints are full a size candy bar, or the smaller snack size ( that come in a bag)
Hi Karen, You will use 8 large or 20 small peppermint patties, depending on how large you want the cookies.
Messy to make and mixed reviews from family. Directions unclear regarding how to mix (by beater or by hand, how long)
Delcious! Will make again!
The picture shows a frosting on these cookies… I see the crushed peppermint candies, but what frosting do you recommend for topping these?
Really, just your favorite frosting! I used a canned frosting just to save time!
Sorry, I’m a “jump to recipe” gal. I see you put a link in your blog post to the icing. Will try these soon!
can I use the smaller peppermint patties?
