How to Make Witch Apple Snacks

  1. Make The Hats: Cut the tops off each strawberry. Add a dot of white icing to each cookie and place the strawberries, cut side down, on top. Cover the hats with melted chocolate.
Pro Tip: It will take a few minutes for the chocolate to harden, you can place them in your refrigerator to speed up this process.
  2. Add The Eyes: Cut a small slice from the bottom of each apple. Use white icing to adhere the candy eyes onto the witch’s face.
  3. Decorate The Hat On Each Head: Spread a thin layer of icing around the top of each apple and place a witch hat on top. Decorate with colored icing, M&Ms and sprinkles.
Pro Tip: If the icing layer is too thick, the hats may slide.
  4. Chill: Chill the apple witches in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Make The Brooms: Cut each string cheese stick in half and make small cuts or peel it about ¾ of the way up. Insert a stick of pocky into the uncut end. Cut each Twizzler in half lengthwise, tie it around the top of the cheese, and trim the excess Twizzler.
Pro Tip: Do not pull the knot too tight or it will break.
  6. Serve: Serve and enjoy chilled or at room temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I eat these apple snacks warm or cold?

These witch apple snacks are best served chilled or at room temperature. Heating them will cause them to melt.

Do I have to use store-bought cookies or can I make my own?

You do not have to use store-bought cookies for this recipe. Feel free to make your own cookies and use them for the witch hats. Just make sure they are strong enough to coat with chocolate and hold up a strawberry.

How should I store my witch apple snacks?

These witch apple snacks are best enjoyed fresh due to cutting the bottom of the apple to make it sturdier. If you do not cut the bottoms of the apple they can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days but the brooms will need to be refrigerated because of the string cheese. It is not recommended to freeze these witch apple snacks.

Can I make this ahead of time and freeze it?

I do not recommend freezing these witch apple treats.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Chill Time 30 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 strawberries washed
  • 6 sugar cookies
  • 1 cup dark melting chocolate
  • 12 large candy eyes
  • 6 green apples Stems removed, washed
  • 6 mini yellow m&ms
  • Halloween colored sprinkles
  • 3 sticks of string cheese
  • 6 chocolate Twizzlers
  • 6 chocolate pocky sticks
  • ¼ cup each of white, orange, purple, and green icing

Instructions

  • Using a small knife, cut the tops of each strawberry off creating a flat even top.
  • Place a dot of white icing on each sugar cookie and place the strawberries cut side down onto the white icing to form the witch hat.
  • In a small bowl, melt chocolate according to the instructions on the package. Use a spoon to cover the strawberry hats with melted chocolate and then place them carefully on a non-stick surface. It will take a few minutes for the chocolate to harden, you can place them in your refrigerator to speed up this process.
  • Cut a small amount of apple from the bottoms of each apple to create a level bottom for the apples to sit on, this will prevent them from rolling around.
  • Using the white icing, place small dots where you would like the eyes to go on the apples, and then place the large candy eyes over the dots.
  • Spread a very thin layer of white icing around the top of each apple and then place one chocolate-covered strawberry witch hat on each apple. If the icing layer is too thick, the hats may slide.
  • Place a ring of colored icing around where the strawberry meets the cookie on each hat. Place a m&m in the icing on the front of the hat and sprinkle each icing band with colored sprinkles. Chill the apple witches in your refrigerator for at least 30 minutes for the icing to harden and set.
  • For the string cheese brooms- cut each string cheese stick in half and make small cuts or peel the string cheese about ¾ of the way up. Place a stick of pocky into the uncut end about ½ inch.
  • Cut each twizzler in half lengthwise using a small knife or clean scissors. Tie each half around the top of each string cheese broom, being careful not to pull the knot too tight or it will break. Trim the excess twizzler.
  • Serve and enjoy them chilled or at room temperature.
