French Bread Pizza in the Air Fryer

Homemade Air Fryer French Bread Pizza tastes so much better than any store-bought frozen french bread brand (say goodbye to Red Baron, Stouffers, and Digiorno), especially when it’s made with fresh ingredients that you feel good about feeding your family.

Using a French loaf, a simple from-scratch sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni, this is the perfect quick and easy snack, supper, or appetizer that you can prepare and cook in minutes.

Once you’ve made my air fryer French bread pizza recipe, you’ll never microwave again! This is the best way to create a crunchy baguette-style bread that’s been smothered in seasoned tomato sauce, all topped with melted cheese and anything else you fancy.

Don’t have an air fryer – not to worry, you can make this in the oven or toaster too!

  • Whole stewed tomatoes
  • Dry minced garlic
  • Dry minced onion

  • Tasty Toppings:
    • Vary The Veggies: Add a variety of veggies to your pizza, like mushrooms, bell pepper, olives, onions, and spinach.

How to Make Homemade French Bread Pizza

  1. Make The Sauce: Pulse the tomatoes and paste with the spices until mixed into a thick, dense sauce.
Pro Tip: This sauce should be double the thickness of pasta sauce.
  2. Assemble: Slice the loaf in half and then lengthwise. Spread the sauce on each half, sprinkle with cheese, and add pepperoni.
  3. Cook in the Airfryer: Cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 minutes.
Cook in the Oven: Cook at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes (you can turn to broil for 1-2 minutes at the end to get the cheese to brown a bit)
  4. Serve: Top with parmesan and crushed pepper. Enjoy!

Tip From Our Recipe Developer

  • You can quickly air fry the bread first to crisp it up before adding your toppings. This way the sauce won’t make it soggy.
  • Cooking times will vary depending on the size and type of air fryer you own. To avoid burning, keep a close eye on pizzas after 5 minutes of cooking.
  • Thinly sliced and lighter toppings tend to “fly” around the air fryer because of the powerful fan. You may want to cover them with cheese to keep everything in place.
  • To make this recipe even easier and faster, you can use a store-bought pizza sauce, marinara sauce, or tomato sauce instead of making your own.

Storage

  • To Store: Leftover French bread pizza can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
  • To Freeze: After the pizza is completely cooled, you can store your slices in a freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag for a few months.
  • To Reheat: To reheat from frozen, air fry the pizza for about 4-5 minutes at 380 degrees. If they are thawed from frozen or from the fridge, air fry them at 380°F for about 2-3 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

can I air fry frozen french bread pizza from a package?

Yes, you can skip the assembly and use a store-bought brand of frozen French bread pizza. I suggest you first preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees, before placing the frozen pizza slices in the air fryer. Cook for about 6 minutes or until heated through.

Can I make an air fryer pizza with another type of bread?

Yes, you can easily make this recipe with another sturdy loaf of bread. You can try sourdough or an Italian loaf, but I wouldn’t use anything softer or you will have a soggy pizza.

If I don’t have an air fryer, Can I use the oven instead?

You can absolutely cook your pizza in an oven. Bake at 40 degrees and you should increase the cooking time to 12-15 minutes. Simply place the French bread pizzas on a foil-lined baking sheet and cook until the cheese is golden brown and melted.

what should I serve with my french bread pizza?

Serve your French bread pizza with something light, like a simple side salad, Tomato Cucumber Salad, Summer Corn Salad, or our Olive Garden Salad Other salads that double as dessert, like an Ambrosia Salad or a 5 Cup Salad, will also be delicious alongside your pizza!
