Ingredients / Shopping List

The ingredients for your chocolate chip cookie bars might look familiar. They are pretty similar to the ingredients required for traditional chocolate chip cookies as well. You may have many of these items already in the pantry at home!

  • 3 sticks salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 ½ cups flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips + more for the top of the cookie bars!

Additions & Substitutions

Chocolate Chips: You can swap out the semi-sweet chocolate chips for any type of chocolate chips! I like to switch it up and use dark chocolate or milk chocolate sometimes. You can also use white chocolate or butterscotch chips as well.

Nuts: A simple addition to chocolate chip cookie bars is nuts! They add great flavor and a nice crunch. My favorite nuts to add are pecans or walnuts.

Sea Salt: One of my favorite things to do is sprinkle a little bit of sea salt on top to get that sweet and salty deliciousness!

  4. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
PRO-TIP: If they are browning too quickly, loosely cover with tin foil to prevent them from getting too brown.cookie dough in a pan baked
  5. Let cool, remove from pan and cut into squares.

Tips

Tip 1: If the top of your cookie bars are turning too brown, tent with a piece of foil to prevent them from over browning.

Tip 2: How to know when they are done cooking? It’s really important that the bars are just slightly undercooked when you remove them from the oven. They will continue to cook a bit as they set in the pan. You don’t want them to overcook or become hard. The edges should just begin to brown

Tip 3: Do not skip lining the baking sheet. You can use parchment paper, foil or I love to use a silicone baking mat! This way you just lift them right out of the pan!

Tip 4: I like to sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top of the dough after I spread it in the pan!

Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can also freeze for up to 3 months. If you plan on freezing, wrap them up in plastic wrap and put in a freezer bag prior to freezing.

  1. Before I make these bars and waste the ingredients, is the butter measurement of 3 sticks correct? Just seems like alot.could I use 2 sticks?
    Thank you

  2. I had to go back and look again. After the cookies were baked, it appears that they are “wet” inside. Are you sure the recipe called for THREE sticks of butter?
