Doggie Birthday Cake Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour: If your dog has a gluten intolerance, you can use gluten free flour instead.
- Baking soda
- Eggs
- Applesauce: I prefer to use plain unsweetened applesauce.
- Plain pumpkin puree: Make sure you use pure pumpkin, not canned pumpkin pie mix.
- Banana
- Coconut oil
- Milk Bones (optional garnish)
- Plain greek yogurt
- Peanut butter: Do NOT use peanut butter with Xylitol as it’s highly toxic for dogs to consume.
Substitutions and Additions
- Pick Your Peanut Butter: You can use any non-natural peanut butter or natural peanut butter BUT DO NOT substitute almond butter or any other nut butter, as most nuts are toxic to dogs.
- Tasty Toppings: Feel free to decorate your dog cakes with your pup’s favorite toppings. Sprinkle on some kibble, add a scoop of Pumpkin Dog Ice Cream, or cover your cake with crushed Homemade Dog Treats.
- Pick Your Purée: You can replace the pumpkin purée with puréed sweet potato or defrosted frozen butternut squash, although the consistency will be thicker and may require some liquid.

- Two 7 or 6 inch round cake pans
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Electric hand or stand mixer

How to Make A Dog Birthday Cake
- Make The Dry Mixture: Mix together the flour and baking soda.
- Make The Cake Mix: Blend together all other cake ingredients (except for milk bones) and then fold in the dry ingredients.
- Bake: Pour the cake mix into the bake pans and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 23-25 minutes or until the tops of the cake are golden brown. Cool to room temperature.
- Form The Frosting: Blend together the yogurt, applesauce, and peanut butter until the frosting is thick, clump-free, and falls off the fork very slowly.
- Assemble: Frost the top of one of the cakes. place the second cake on top, and then frost the top with the remaining frosting.
- Serve: Garnish with crushed milk bones (optional) and serve to your favorite birthday fur baby.

- Each dog can react differently to any type of new treat that hits their belly. This is important to note when serving your pup something new for the first time. Serve your pup one treat within 24 hours to see how their belly responds before giving them multiple.

- Before frosting the cake, place the first cake round on a cake stand if you plan on using one. If not, you can use a plate.

Dog Birthday Cake
Ingredients
Cakes:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups applesauce
- 1 cup plain pumpkin puree
- 1 banana sliced
- ¼ cup coconut oil fully melted
- Crushed small Milk Bones for garnishing optional
Frosting:
- ½ cup plain greek yogurt
- ½ cup applesauce
- 1 cup peanut butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare two 7 or 6 inch round cake pans with non-stick cooking spray.
- Mix together the flour and baking soda. Blend well and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, blend together all other cake ingredients (except for milk bones) using an electric hand or stand mixer.
- Fold in the dry ingredients and blend again until fully incorporated.
- Pour out the cake mix into the bake pans, dividing evenly.
- Bake for 23-25 minutes or until the tops of the cake are golden brown.
- When done, allow the cakes to cool for about 2 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Allow the cakes to cool there until they reach room temperature.
- Once at room temperature, begin to prepare your frosting. Add all frosting ingredients to a small mixing bowl and blend well using a fork. Mix until the frosting is thick, clump free, and falls off the fork very slowly.
- Using a frosting knife or butter knife, frost the top of one of the cakes, covering it completely. You should use half of the frosting.
- Place the second cake round on the frosting, lining up perfectly with the bottom cake. Frost the top of the cake with the remaining frosting.
- Top with crushed milk bones for garnishing (optional) and serve to your favorite birthday fur baby.
