Making homemade dog treats for our pup has become a bit of a hobby for me. It doesn’t take long, it’s fun, it saves money, and I know exactly what is going into the treats that I feed my dog. Plus, he goes crazy for them!
These coconut oil and blueberry gummy dog treats were no different. My pup loved them and I know yours will, too. They take less than 10 minutes to put together and require just 3 simple ingredients. How to Make Homemade Gummy Dog Treats
These easy homemade dog treats come together in just 6 simple steps. The prep for this recipe will only take about 10-15 minutes. Then, just let them chill and set in the fridge.
Blend blueberries until smooth.
Microwave coconut oil until fully melted. Add coconut oil to blueberries and blend. Combine gelatin and blueberry mixtures and fill a silicone mold with the mixture.
Pro-tip: I use an injector tool to more easily fill the molds, but if you don’t have one, simply pouring the liquid or spooning it into the crevices will work too.
Place in the fridge for an hour until solid.
Pro-tip: Place the silicone molds on a plate when you transfer them to the fridge to avoid spilling!
Variations / Options / Add-ins
- BLUEBERRIES: You can use other fruits in place of the blueberries, as long as they’re safe for dogs. I recommend sticking with fresh fruit on this recipe for the correct consistency and texture.
- GELATIN: When choosing the gelatin for your dog treats, it’s important to use a plain, unflavored gelatin with no artificial colors or sweeteners. The fruit will add the flavor and sweetness for your dog to enjoy!
- If your blueberries are cold, this may cause the coconut oil to immediately solidify. If so, slip the mixture into the microwave for about 30 seconds or until the coconut oil is liquid again.
- If your blueberries weren’t very juicy, the mixture may be thicker and be a bit hard to work with. If so, add a tablespoon of water in at a time and slip it into the microwave for 15-second intervals until it’s easier to work with.

Store in a sealed container in a cool pantry or in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. I don’t recommend freezing these treats.
It’s best to use fresh blueberries for this recipe. I have tried it with frozen berries and it’s been unsuccessful. You could also swap the blueberries out for a different kind of berry if you prefer (just make sure the fruit is dog safe!)
Any type of silicone mold will work. I recommend choosing a mold based on your dog and how big/small they are. If you have a small dog, it can be better to use a mold that has small sized treats. Smaller molds can yield up to 30 treats from this recipe. If you use a classic dog bone mold, you will get more treats from this recipe.

- Paw Print Silicone Mold
- Injector (optional)
- 2 packets unflavored gelatin (0.5 ounces)
- ½ cup coconut oil
- ¼ cup fresh blueberries
- 2 tbsp water (optional)
- Place the blueberries in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Place the coconut oil in a small dish and place it in the microwave, on high, for about a minute or until fully melted.
- Add the coconut oil to the blender and blend. If your blueberries are cold, this may cause the coconut oil to immediately solidify. If so, slip the mixture into the microwave for about 30 seconds or until the coconut oil is liquid again.
- Combine the gelatin with the blueberry mixture and mix well. If your blueberries weren’t very juicy, the mixture may be thicker than it should be and hard to work with. If so, add a tablespoon of water in at a time and slip it into the microwave for 15 second intervals until it’s easier to work with.
