Carrot Dog Treats Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour: Oat flour can be substituted for whole wheat flour. Both are easy for dogs to digest and contain vitamins, minerals and fiber that are beneficial for your dog. If your dog has a gluten intolerance, you can use gluten free flour instead.
- Baking powder: A leavening agent to help the treats rise and achieve a lighter texture.
- Carrots: Add natural sweetness, moisture, and a boost of vitamins and fiber to this carrot treats for dogs. Baby carrots can be substituted for full size carrots; they will just take longer to shred. Make sure you do not peel the carrots.
- Creamy peanut butter: Provides protein and healthy fats, making the treats tasty and satisfying. I used Jif no sugar added, but you can use natural creamy peanut butter or crunchy peanut butter if you prefer. Be sure that whatever peanut butter you choose does not contain xylitol as it is poisonous to dogs.
- Water
- Eggs: Add protein and help bind the ingredients together.
- Honey: A natural sweetener that enhances flavor and provides some antioxidants.

Tips & Variations
- Bake the Dog Bones: The cooking time for these carrot dog treats depends on how soft or crunchy you want them and how large your cookie cutter is.
- Create The Cookie Dough: The dough should appear firm but not dry. If necessary, add a few more tablespoons of water.
- Fill With More Fiber: Feel free to substitute a portion of the flour with oats, or you can add them alongside the other dry ingredients to add extra texture to the treats. Oats are a nutritious ingredient that provides fiber and can help with doggie digestion. You may need to adjust the moisture slightly, as oats can absorb water.

Proper Storage
- To Store: Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days.
- To Freeze: You can freeze the treats in a gallon size freezer bag for up to 2 months with wax paper placed in between the layers. Allow the treats to thaw at room temperature, uncovered, overnight.
Can my dog eat all of these ingredients?
Yes. All of the ingredients in homemade carrot dog treats are safe for your pet. However, remember to consult with your veterinarian before introducing any new treats into your dogโs diet, especially if your dog has specific health conditions or dietary restrictions. Hereโs a breakdown.
- Eggs are a good source of protein, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals source. However, they should be thoroughly cooked to avoid the risk of salmonella or biotin deficiency.
- Carrots are a healthy, low-calorie snack that provides vitamins (like vitamin A), fiber, and antioxidants. Most dogs enjoy the crunchy texture and natural sweetness. Just be sure to cut them into appropriate sizes to prevent choking, especially for smaller dogs.
- Dogs love peanut butter and can eat it if it does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. You do want to be careful not to give your dog too much peanut butter, as it has a high-fat content.
- Dogs can handle honey in small amounts. While small amounts of honey are generally safe for dogs, it is high in sugar. It should be given sparingly, especially if itโs a small dog.
- Whole wheat flour is safe for dogs unless they have a specific wheat allergy or sensitivity. Itโs nutrient-rich and full of dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy weight by promoting a feeling of fullness.

hi
Iโm really confused about the amount of flour we are supposed to be usingโฆ..I want to make the 3x amount of treats and it says 6 cups of flour and then something about 1and 3/4 cup for dough and a 4th for dustingโฆโฆis it suppose to be 5 and 3/4 for dough and 1/4th for dusting
Iโm eager to make these but a little confused about the amount of whole wheat flour. 1 3/4 plus another 1/4 cup donโt add up to 2 1/2 cups so Iโm unsure which amounts to use.
You are certainly correct on our poor adding skills!! Thank you for pointing that out. I just fixed it.
These look very good and iโm going to Try them with my dog as an alternative to a commercial treat that iโve been buying her. One comment about the post and your reference to check with your veterinarian call. When I spoke to my vet. She told me that just like human doctors. That donโt get any training on nutrition or food for animals while there in school and that she doesnโt know very much about nutrition she. Referred me to a site called balance.com For guidance on preparing her food at home. And I use that to cook her regular food. Iโm sure if I had a dog that had underlying health conditions that were connect to food. That I might check with my vet. But that regular thing that we always get both for people and dogs about check with your doctor isnโt really valid. We need to find a better source to get our information.
Any recipes for kitty treats.. I donโt own a dog or puppy, but I make dog treats for my friends pups and animal shelters, I absolutely โค๏ธ animals. I wanted to become a Veterinarian, so since Iโm not I show my love for fur babies another way
Thank you ๐
