Caramel Apple Grapes – The Perfect Bite-Sized Snack

Our Caramel Apple Grapes recipe is a fun twist on the classic carnival snack, made even easier by replacing the apples with bite-sized grapes and coating them in melted caramel bits with a covering of crushed nuts.

Caramel grapes are a great crunchy, sweet finger food and make a refreshing fall snack; the pairing of crispy bitter fruit, soft caramel, and nutty crunch make this candy apple grapes recipe the perfect combination of tastes and textures.

Caramel dipped grapes taste just like caramel apples found at the county fair, but these little treats are easier to eat than the big piece of fruit. You won’t have to worry about breaking your teeth, and they fit in your mouth without making a mess on your face!

How to Make Caramel Apple Grapes

  1. Poke: Poke a toothpick or cake pop stick into the top of each grape.
  2. Melt: Microwave the caramel chews and heavy whipping cream for 1 minute. Stir and continue to microwave in 30-second bursts until silky smooth.
  3. Dip And Dredge: Dip the grapes into the melted caramel, let it cool for a few seconds, and roll it in the crushed nuts.
  4. Set And Serve: Set inside the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Tips For Making Caramel Apple Grapes

  • Ensure your grapes are completely dry before coating, or the caramel won’t stick.
  • Allow the caramel to drip off of the grape slowly. The more hot caramel on the grape, the more it will pull downward and rest at the bottom of the grape. The caramel and nuts will pool below.
  • To get a solid caramel rim, allow the caramel to rest on the grape for a few seconds before rolling in the bed of nuts.
  • You must use parchment paper when serving your snacks because the caramel will stick to glass, porcelain, and metal plates and platters. To serve, cut parchment paper to the size of your serving tray and lay it down first.
  • These are best served chilled.

How to Store Caramel Apple Grapes

  • To Store: Store these caramel apple grapes inside the refrigerator while not serving so the caramel stays firm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use red grapes instead of green grapes?

You can absolutely use red grapes instead of green grapes in this recipe. I like to use green grapes because they tend to be firmer and the bitterness and acid from the green grape makes a great match to an apple. But if you prefer a sweeter flavor profile, feel free to use red grapes.

Can I dip the grapes in chocolate instead of caramel?

Yes, you can dip the grapes in chocolate to make this snack a decadent dessert. Simply melt milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white chocolate and coat it like you would with caramel.

Can I make my own caramel sauce for dipping?

Absolutely! My homemade salted caramel sauce is delicious and takes only 5 minutes.

  • Without placing the grape down, roll the grape in the bed of crushed nuts so that it covers 1⁄2 of the grape. You want to visually see a nice caramel rim towards the top of the grape for aesthetics.
    ½ cup crushed nuts
  • Repeat for each grape and allow the caramel to set inside the refrigerator (about 30 minutes) before enjoying.
