When I think about Fall, I think about growing up going to the cider mill and picking apples, having cider and donuts and then going home and making caramel apples.

While I love a good caramel apple, eating them is never an easy feat. That is where our Caramel Apple Dip comes in! This easy caramel apple dip recipe makes a light and fluffy dessert dip that can be scooped with fresh fruit (or your favorite finger foods).

This cream cheese caramel apple dip is one of those Fall treats that are not to be missed! It has simple ingredients that start with a cream cheese layer, followed by gooey caramel, and topped with crunchy toffee bits. It will be a huge hit for a tailgate or your next fall gatherings!

Ingredients Notes

caramel apple dip ingredients.
  • Cream cheese: Let your cream cheese soften to room temperature to make mixing it with the other ingredients easier.
  • Powdered sugar: Sifted powdered sugar adds sweetness to the dip and helps to prevent any lumps in the final mixture.
  • Vanilla extract: Vanilla will help offset the tang of the cream cheese. It also adds a warm and aromatic note that complements both the caramel and the cream cheese.
  • Caramel dip: Marzetti is a popular brand found in the produce section near the apples. However, if you can not find it, any thick salted caramel sauce, such as Mrs. Richards or Smuckers brands, will also work well for caramel dip recipes. Homemade salted caramel sauce is also a great option if you have the time.
  • English toffee bits: Toffee bits add a delightful crunch and an extra layer of caramelized sweetness, creating a contrast in texture that makes the dip more interesting.
  • Red and green apples: I recommend using either Gala, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady apples for the red apples used for dipping. These varieties are sweet and slightly tart, with a crisp texture to them, and pair very well with the caramel apple dip. The most well-known green apple variety, Granny Smith apples are tart, crisp, and juicy, making a great contrast for dipping in something sweet.

How to Make Caramel Apple Dip

  1. Make The Mixture: In a medium bowl, using a hand mixer or standing mixer, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl to ensure no lumps remain.
  2. Assemble: Spread the cream cheese mixture into a serving dish. Cover with a layer of caramel dip, and then sprinkle the English toffee bits on top.
  3. Serve: Serve the caramel apple dip at room temperature alongside a tray of sliced red and green apples. Enjoy!

Serving Suggestions

I like to serve this fruit dip in a bowl surrounded by sliced green and red apples, but almost any firm fruit will work well. Pear slices, strawberries, or even grapes taste great with this dip.

Don’t just save this dipping sauce for apples and fruit! Choose from a variety of sweet and savory dippers for scooping, like vanilla wafers, cookies, pretzels, graham crackers, animal crackers, or any foods you fancy.

Perfect for game day, potlucks, parties, or any time you’re craving a caramel apple. It’s a fall favorite recipe to be enjoyed all year round!

Tips & Variations

  • Slice Right Before Serving: I highly recommend waiting until you are ready to serve the dip before slicing your apples. You can help delay the browning of the apple slices by tossing them in a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice before arranging them onto a serving platter.
  • Cut The Contents: This recipe makes a good amount of dip to serve at a large party. You can easily cut the recipe in half to serve a smaller crowd. This dip is a crowd-pleaser, so I always make the recipe as written and store the leftovers to snack on for the next couple of days.
  • Serve Your Sauce: A 1 quart small (approximately 9x6x2 inch) dish was used for this recipe. You can use whatever serving dish, or bowl, you desire. Just make sure it can hold at least 3 cups of dip.
  • Display The Dip: Depending on the size and shape of your serving dish, your layers may look slightly different than the images shown. If your serving dish is wider and more shallow, then your cream cheese and caramel layers will be thinner.
  • Create Your Crunch: I love the crunch and flavor of the toffee bits, but feel free to top your dip with chopped nuts, crushed candy, peanuts, toasted coconut, or mini chocolate chips.

Proper Storage

  • To Store: This caramel apple dip can sit out at a cool room temperature (approximately 68°F-72°F) for up to two hours. The dip should be covered and refrigerated for longer storage. This caramel apple dip can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Make Ahead: You can make this apple caramel dip ahead of time if you leave off the caramel and toffee bits until you are ready to serve. I actually prefer to make this ahead of time because it allows the dip to set and get nice and cold.

  1. Yum! Delicious and good for a crowd! I halved the recipe and it was more than enough for five people. Really easy to throw together.

  2. You don’t have to post my comment – there’s a word in your directions that doesn’t quite work:
You have – spit the bowl – it should say ‘split’ / spit gives a whole different meaning what to do!
