Why You’ll Love These Red, White & Blue Cake Balls
- Festive and fun: With bright layers of red, white, and blue cake and star sprinkles on top, they’re perfect for patriotic holidays like the 4th of July or Memorial Day.
- No sticks required: These are all the fun of cake pops without the hassle—no need for lollipop sticks or fancy tools.
- Easy to make ahead: You can prep them in advance and keep them chilled, making party day much easier.
- Kid-approved: From the colorful inside to the sweet white chocolate coating, these are always a hit with kids (and adults, too!).
- Customizable: Swap in different cake flavors or change the sprinkle colors to fit any holiday or party theme.
Ingredients
- White cake mix plus the oil, water, and eggs called for on the box
- Red and blue food coloring
- Cream cheese: Make sure the block of cream cheese is softened to room temperature to avoid lumps in the cake mixture. I prefer using full-fat cream cheese for this recipe because it gives these treats the most flavor and richness. Reduced-fat cream cheese would still work, but they may not be as rich-tasting.
- White vanilla melting wafers: If you can not find good-quality white candy melts (like Ghirardelli brand), you can use vanilla almond bark and melt it according to the package instructions. White chocolate chips tend to seize, so you may need to add ½ teaspoons vegetable oil or coconut oil for a smooth finish.
- Red, white, and blue sprinkles

How to Make 4th of July Cake Pops
- Make The Bomb Batter: In a large mixing bowl, prepare the cake mix according to the instructions on the box.
- Color The Cake: Separate the cake batter into three separate bowls. Add red food coloring into the first bowl, blue into the second, and leave the third plain.
- Bake: Pour the colored cake batter into separate baking pans. Bake for 14-16 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center of the cake.
- Cool And Crumble: Remove from the oven and cool each cake completely on a wire rack. Crumble the cakes into separate medium mixing bowls.
- Make The Mixture: Beat the cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy. Mix cream cheese into each bowl of crumbled cake.
- Scoop And Roll Round: Use a cookie scoop to form red, white, and blue cake balls. Place them on the baking trays and chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
- Melt: Melt the white chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second intervals until fully melted.
- Dip And Decorate: Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate to coat completely, drizzle with remaining melted chocolate, then add sprinkles while still wet. Place them back into the refrigerator for 15 minutes to set.
- Serve: Serve slightly chilled and enjoy!

Tips & Variations
- Use Colored Candy Melts: Switch out the white chocolate for red candy melts and blue candy melts to give your cake bombs even more festive flair. Dip some in red, others in blue, and drizzle white chocolate on top!
- Coat The Candy: For the smoothest coating, use a fork to dip each patriotic treat into the melted chocolate, tapping gently to remove excess. To avoid chocolate drips, use a toothpick to lift the cake ball off the fork and place it onto the lined baking sheet.
- Pipe Like A Pro: For easy chocolate drizzling, transfer your melted chocolate into a zip-top bag and snip a small hole in one corner. For more control and precision, use a piping bag with a fine round tip!
- Customize Your Cake Bombs: Swap out the colors and sprinkles to match any holiday: pastel for Easter, green and red for Christmas, or your favorite team colors for game day!
Proper Storage
- To Store: These cake balls can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- To Freeze: For longer storage, you can also freeze them (before adding sprinkles) for up to 1 month. Thaw in the fridge and decorate before serving!
