Easy Cake Mix Cookies For The Fourth of July

This 4th of July Cake Mix Cookies recipe is so quick and easy to make using a simple shortcut: the dough is a combination of cake mix, eggs, oil, and vanilla, all mixed into a batter, rolled into balls, and baked in under 10 minutes.

Once cooled, I decorate these soft and delicate cookies in the colors that celebrate the holiday by dipping them in melted red, white and blue chocolate and loading them with sprinkles, jimmies and star-spangled sprinkles.

The best part of the 4th of July is the food that accompanies the fireworks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze these cake mix cookies?

Yes, you can freeze these cookies in one of 2 ways. You can either freeze the cookie batter as a whole batch or scooped into balls before baking or you can bake the cookies and then freeze them once they cool.
Be sure to store the batter or the baked cookies in an airtight container or in a freezer bag.

Can I use a chocolate or red velvet cake mix for this recipe?

Yes, you can use any cake mix for these cookies. I like to use a white mix because it lets the red, white, and blue colors pop.

Do I have to refrigerate my cookie dough?

I highly recommend chilling your cookie dough in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes for easier scooping. This dough is stickier than regular cookie dough.
If you are short on time, you can skip it, although it may be harder to work with.
