I love a good classic and have always want ed to see if I could recreate that classic chocolate sandwhich cookie we all grew up with right in my own kitchen, the Oreo Cookie! These homemade Oreo cookies have that perfect chocolate cookie and creamy center, but they taste fresh and just melt in your mouth, so soft and fudgy, unlike the store-bought version.
Whenever I bring a batch of these to parties or a neighbor’s house, they are always the first thing to disappear. If you have a cake mix in your pantry, you are already halfway there!

Key Ingredients
To make these cookies, there are only a few ingredients that you need:
For the Cookies
- Devil’s Food Cake Mix: One standard 15 oz box is all you need.
- Oil: Vegetable or canola oil keeps them nice and moist.
- Eggs: You’ll need two large eggs to bind everything together.
For the Filling:
- Butter: Make sure it’s softened so your frosting is nice and smooth.
- Cream Cheese: This adds that perfect “fancy” flavor to the middle.
- Powdered Sugar: To give it that classic sweet cookie filling.
- Milk or Cream: Just a splash to get the consistency perfect.

How to Make Homemade Oreo Cookies
- Prep the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F and line your cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Mix the dough: In a large bowl, beat the cake mix, oil, and eggs together with a mixer until a thick dough forms.
- Scoop and flatten: Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 tablespoon each) and place them 2 inches apart. Give each ball a little “smoosh” with your hand to flatten it slightly before baking.
- Bake: Pop them in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes. You want the tops to look set but still soft. Let them cool completely.
- Make the filling: Beat the butter and cream cheese together until fluffy, then slowly add the powdered sugar and milk.
- Assemble: Spread a big dollop of frosting on the bottom of one cookie and press another cookie on top to make a sandwich.

How to Store Homemade Oreo Cookies
If you have any leftovers (which is rare at my house), I like to keep mine in the refrigerator because of the cream cheese in the filling.
They actually taste amazing when they are slightly chilled! You can also freeze these in a freezer-safe bag for up to three months. Just pull one out whenever you need a quick sweet treat.

I use all Linds of cake mix, lemon were delicious.
Thank you for this simple recipe I’m making this with my kids for our fun Friday!
Can these be made with vanilla or golden cake mix, like golden oreo’s? Either way, I want to try making them!
Can you freeze those? I was wanting to send them to a friend but I (stupidly) made them on a Saturday so they can’t even go out until Monday and then it’s another 3 days for it to get there.
