Crockpot Hot Chocolate – Rich, Warm & Chocolatey!

You haven’t had hot chocolate until you have made it in the crockpot! This crockpot peppermint hot chocolate will change snow days forever! It’s incredibly easy to make in the slow cooker and it’s so delicious.

The melted chocolate chips combined with warm milk are so creamy. The added candy cane bits are what gives this its peppermint flavor, and the whipped topping is literally the best way to top it all off. This is a drink that you want in your mug to warm you up on a cold day.

ingredients for Crockpot Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • ½ cup crushed candy cane bits
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 cups milk
  • Whipped cream
  • Additional candy pieces for garnish

Additions & Substitutions

  • Chocolate Chips: Feel free to use any type of chocolate chips in this recipe. I love to mix it up. Milk chocolate is classic, but you can use white chocolate chips or dark chocolate as well. Any kind is delicious.
  • Milk: Just like the chocolate chips, you can use any type of milk for your hot chocolate. This means it can be dairy or dairy free, although keep in mind the chocolate chips will have dairy. Some milk options include whole milk, 2%, skim, almond, oat, soy, or coconut.
  • Coffee/espresso: If you love coffee as much as I do, this can totally be made into a coffee drink by adding brewed coffee or espresso to it. It’s a delicious way to have a little kick of caffeine!
  • Garnish: Feel free to leave the whipped cream and candy pieces off if you don’t want the added sweetness. You can also put something other than candy over the top of the whipped cream. Some ideas would be to add chocolate shavings, mini chocolate chips, Andes mints, or sprinkles.
  • Peppermint Extract: If you want to make this an adult drink, you can swap out the peppermint extract for peppermint schnapps! It’s just as delicious.
