Campfire Crescent Roll Hot Dogs Ingredients

Campfire Crescent Roll Hot Dogs ingredients.
  • Crescent roll dough: I used the Pillsbury crescent roll dough sold in the refrigerated section of the grocery store.
  • Mustard: Mustard adds a tangy and slightly spicy flavor that complements the savory taste of the sausage. It can also prevent the hot dog from drying from the direct heat so they remain juicy. Don’t like mustard, feel free to leave it off.
  • Hotdogs: Bratwurst, chicken sausages, and mild Italian sausages would all work well in this recipe.

Tips & Variations

  • When Using Wood: If you are using wooden grilling skewers, you may want to cover any portion exposed to the fire with tin foil to prevent burning. Additionally, it is best to skewer the hot dog onto the skewer before wrapping the dough around it. The hot dog only needs to be inserted about 3/4 of the way down the skewer.
  • Make With Metal: If you choose to use metal skewers, there’s no need to cover with foil.
  • Keep the Dough Cool: Make sure to keep the crescent dough cold in your cooler before using. This will ensure a nicely baked Pig in a Blanket.
  • Don’t Burn The Blanket: When cooking the pigs in a blanket, it is best to keep them away from a flame as they will burn on the outside and remain raw inside.

Proper Storage

  • To Store: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
  • To Freeze: Individually wrapped pigs in a blanket can be placed in a freezer safe bag and stored in the freezer for 1-2 months.
  • To Reheat: Reheat in the oven until warmed through.
