Campfire Crescent Roll Hot Dogs are easy to make by wrapping dough around the dog. You'll enjoy the eating experience, because the best part of camping is the food that cooks over the fire!
12ouncespackage of crescent roll dough(I used Pillsbury Grands Crescent Rolls)
mustard
8hotdogs
ketchup for serving
Instructions
Pre-boil hot dogs according to package directions and set them aside to cool
8 hotdogs
Separate the crescent rolls into 8 equal portions along the precut lines
12 ounces package of crescent roll dough
Lightly brush mustard onto one side of each of the 8 triangular pieces of dough
mustard
Place the hot dog along the shortest edge of the triangle and wrap the dough around the hot dog
Insert the hotdog into a clean skewer and place over the embers of your fire.
Let cook for 10-15 minutes rotating the skewer frequently to ensure even cooking and to prevent burning
They are done when the dough is golden brown on all sides and has puffed up. Make sure the dough is properly cooked around the hot dog and place it back over the embers if the dough is still sticky looking.
Remover from skewers and serve with ketchup on the side
ketchup for serving
Notes
Storage:
To Store: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
To Freeze: Individually wrapped pigs in a blanket can be placed in a freezer safe bag and stored in the freezer for 1-2 months.
Tips:
When Using Wood: If you are using wooden grilling skewers, you may want to cover any portion exposed to the fire with tin foil to prevent burning. Additionally, when using wooden skewers, it is best to skewer the hot dog onto the skewer before wrapping the dough around it. The hot dog only needs to be inserted about 3/4 of the way down the skewer.
Make With Metal: If you choose to use metal skewers, there's no need to cover with foil.
Keep the Dough Cool: Make sure to keep the crescent dough cold in your cooler before using. This will ensure a nicely baked Pig in a Blanket.
Don't Burn The Blanket: When cooking the pigs in a blanket, it is best to keep them away from a flame as they will burn on the outside and remain raw inside.
