  1. Make The Meat Mixture: Cook the ground beef, diced onion and fresh minced garlic over medium-high heat for 4 – 5 minutes, stirring often, until the ground beef is no longer pink. Remove from the heat and stir in the sloppy joe sauce until completely combined.
  2. Make The Bisquick Mixture: Whisk together the Bisquick mix, onion powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir in the milk, beaten egg, and 1 ½ cups of the shredded cheese.
  3. Assemble: Pour the sloppy joe mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of the sloppy joe mixture. Evenly spread the Bisquick mixture over the shredded cheese layer.

Ingredients
  

  • lbs very lean ground beef
  • 1 cup finely diced sweet yellow onion
  • 2 tsp fresh minced garlic
  • 15.5 ounce can sloppy joe sauce
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar jack cheese (divided 2 cups and 1 cup)
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons bisquick mix (or generic version)
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp cracked black pepper
  • cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg beaten

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375*. Lightly spray a 9 inch deep dish pie pan with nonstick spray. Set it aside.
  • Using a 4 – 5 quart saucepan over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, diced onion and fresh minced garlic, for 4 – 5 minutes stirring often, until the ground beef is no longer pink. Remove from the heat.
  • Add the sloppy joe sauce and stir to completely combine.
  • Pour the sloppy joe mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of the sloppy joe mixture.
  • Add the bisquick mix, onion powder, kosher salt and cracked black pepper to a medium size mixing bowl, whisk to combine.
  • Stir in the whole milk, beaten egg and 1 ½ cups of the shredded cheese.
  • Evenly spread the bisquick mixture over the shredded cheese layer. Bake for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden. Serve while hot.
