Rum Punch recipe can make both a single serving cocktail for sipping solo by the pool as well as a larger-batch beverage for ladling from a punch bowl. Keep reading to find out how you can prepare a party-size punch in a drink dispenser or scale down the measurements to fit in a cocktail shaker.
Caribbean Rum Punch Cocktail
Our Rum Punch is a classic Caribbean cocktail that combines sweet and tart flavors with the smooth taste of rum. I’ll show you how to prepare a spiked fruit punch for one or make a multi-serving drink for a party.
It’s easy to remember the basic formula when making rum punch cocktail recipes: I like to “loosely” follow the saying: 1 part sour, 2 parts sweet, 3 parts strong, and 4 parts weak. In other words, the lime is sour, the grenadine is sweet, the rum is strong, and the fruit juice is weak!
But….if you know me by now, I often break the rules! The rhyme is meant to give you a rough idea of what rum cocktails contain rather than an exact blueprint or flavor combination. You can adjust your measurements to make it stronger or weaker.
While you’re at it, why not give it a tropical twist with a rum trifecta? Add some coconut-flavored rum to your cocktail and sip some Jamaican rum punch!
Rum Punch Ingredients
- Ice
- Orange juice: Use pulp free orange juice that is not from concentrate.
- Pineapple juice: Use 100% juice that is not from concentrate.
- Grenadine: Pomegranate juice is a great substitute for grenadine. It has a similar tart and sweet flavor and the same pop of color.
- Sweetened lime juice: Sweetened lime juice is a bottled lime flavored simple syrup, which can be substituted with ½ ounce fresh squeezed lime juice and plain simple syrup if desired. It is easily found where the grenadine, and other cocktail mixers are found in your local liquor or grocery store.
- Dark rum: I used Bacardi Gold brand for this rum punch drink. You can substitute coconut rum for the dark rum for a slightly sweeter, more tropical flavor profile or use a spiced rum that’s been infused with cinnamon and nutmeg, giving it a sweet and spicy flavor.
- Silver rum: I used Bacardi Superior brand for this rum cocktail recipe but you can use your favorite. Silver rum is also known as white or light rum, and it has a light flavor and almost no color.

How to Make Rum Punch For ONE
- Shake: Shake the ice, orange juice, pineapple juice, grenadine, lime juice, dark rum and silver rum in a cocktail shaker, with the lid on, for 15-20 seconds.
- Pour: Strain and pour the punch over ice in a glass.
- Serve: Garnish your glass and enjoy!
HOW to Make Rum Punch FOR A CROWD
For a large batch, add all the ingredients (minus the ice) to a large drink dispenser and stir to fully combine. Refrigerate the rum punch until ready to serve. The large batch yields ½ gallon of rum punch. You can easily double the proportions to make a larger amount depending on the size of your punch bowl or drink dispenser.
Serving Suggestions
