How to Make an Oreo Milkshake
This recipe comes together super easily and very quickly, in just 5-10 minutes. You can serve it right away, or wait and store it in the freezer to let it thicken up a bit!
Place Klondike bars, Oreos, ice, vanilla, and half & half in a blender and blend.
Pro-tip: Make sure all cold ingredients are very cold – you can put the half and half in ice cube trays for a few hours if you want! I recommend only freezing your half and half if you have a high-powered blender. The liquid in the half and half tends to help the ingredients blend more easily.
Pour mixture into serving glasses.
Top with your favorite toppings!
Variations / Options / Add-ins
- OPTIONAL GARNISHES: You can top your milkshake with whatever toppings you prefer! Some of my favorites are: our homemade whipped cream, whole Oreo cookies, chocolate syrup, crushed nuts like pecans or peanuts, sprinkles, and maraschino cherries.
- KLONDIKE BARS: Any type of chocolate-covered ice cream will work. You can also use 2-3 large scoops of your favorite ice cream.
- HALF & HALF: Replace the half and half with whole milk for a slightly thinner shake
- OREO COOKIES: I recommend using regular Oreos, as opposed to double stuffed Oreos. Double stuffed Oreos make this shake a little too sweet.
- BANANA OREO MILKSHAKE: A delicious variation of this milkshake is to add in bananas and make it a banana Oreo flavored shake! So delicious and refreshing.
- PEANUT BUTTER OREO MILKSHAKE: Another delicious variation is to add in 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter! Is there anything better than peanut butter and Oreos together?!

Don’t try storing this in the refrigerator. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer, away from the freezer door.
Chill your beaters and mixing bowl for 5 or 10 minutes, especially if it’s a hot day. Whip together 1 cup of well-chilled heavy, up to 2 tablespoons of sugar (or maple syrup or honey that is liquidy) and up to 1/2 teaspoon vanilla on medium or medium-high speed, until thickened. (Don’t add too much sweetener, or the entire shake will be too sweet). Add a tiny bit of cinnamon or another spice if desired. Keep in the refrigerator until used, within 1 or 2 hours. This will make about 2 cups of whipped cream. You can also use my easy Homemade Whipped Cream recipe!
Yes, just blend up the main ingredients (minus the whipped cream and other garnishes), pour into your glass, then put it in the freezer. Let sit out for a few minutes while you garnish the top when you are ready to eat. Although you can do it this way, the best texture will come from making and eating your milkshake fresh.
If it’s completely frozen, just put it in the microwave for 15-20 seconds at a time until it’s the right consistency for drinking.
