- Chopped green chiles: Choose mild or hot, depending on your spice preference
- Taco seasoning mix: A store-bought packet or homemade taco seasoning

How to Make Texas Trash Dip
- Melt the cream cheese: In a large pan over medium heat, heat the cubed cream cheese until soft and almost melted.
- Mix the dip: Add in the sour cream, refried beans, chopped green chiles, taco seasoning, and half of the Tex-Mex cheese blend. Stir and heat until everything is combined and smooth.
- Assemble: Pour the bean mixture into a baking dish sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top.
- Bake: Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Serve warm with your favorite chips and optional garnishes!
Can I make this in a slow cooker?
Absolutely! Just mix all the ingredients together and cook on high for about 2 hours, or until everything is hot and melty. Then switch to warm to keep it at the perfect serving temperature.
Recipe Tips
- Use full-fat ingredients for the richest flavor and creamiest texture—it really makes a difference.
- Don’t skip the green chiles – they add that classic Tex-Mex flavor and just the right amount of heat.
- Make ahead – mix and assemble the dip in advance, cover, and refrigerate. Bake just before serving.
- Serve it warm – this dip is at its best hot and bubbly straight from the oven.
- Use sturdy chips – tortilla chips, Fritos corn chips, pita chips, crackers, carrot sticks, or sliced bell peppers all hold up well for scooping hearty dips.
How to Store and Reheat
- To Store: Transfer leftovers to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.
- To Reheat: For individual portions, microwave in 30-second bursts until hot. To reheat the full dish, cover with foil and warm in a 350°F oven until heated through.
- Freezing: Not recommended—freezing can change the texture and make the dip watery once thawed.

Jenn’s Notes
- To Store: Leftover Texas trash dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- To Reheat: To reheat, microwave your dip in 30 second intervals until heated through.
- This dip is best served warm, fresh from the oven. However, it can be assembled a day ahead of time and baked just before serving.
- The cheese will become a bit more stiff as it cools, so sturdy tortilla chips are best for dipping.
