Butter Toffee Pretzels Ingredients
- Mini pretzel twists: I used mini pretzel twists, but square-shaped pretzels or any small hard pretzel will work in this pretzel toffee recipe. You can use gluten-free pretzels if you have a gluten sensitivity.
- Light brown sugar: The molasses in brown sugar contributes to a rich flavor and helps create the toffee coating.
- Salted butter: You can use unsalted butter if you wish, but I recommend adding some salt to balance the sugar flavors.
- Light corn syrup: This sweetener prevents the sugar from crystallizing, ensuring a smooth, gooey toffee consistency. Do not use dark corn syrup.
- Pure vanilla extract
- Baking soda
- Heath English toffee bits: A delicious topping for added sweetness and crunchy texture. If you can’t find a bag of Heath toffee bits in the baking aisle, you can substitute chopped toffee candy bars or crush your own.

How to Make Butter Toffee Pretzels
- Make The Toffee Mixture: Bring the brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup to a low boil, stirring constantly. After 5 minutes, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda.
- Pour Over The Pretzels: In a large bowl, pour the hot toffee mixture over the pretzels. Stir the toffee and pretzels together to coat.
- Spread and Sprinkle: Line a large baking sheet with tin foil or parchment paper. Spread the pretzels on the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle the top with toffee bits.
- Bake: Bake at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour, turning the toffee pretzels in 15 minute intervals.

How do I get the toffee mixture to evenly coat the pretzels? Mine ended up very clumpy. Is there a method to get a m ore even coverage of the pretzels? Is there a temperature that I should use with a candy thermometer to get a better result?

Hi Ronnie! You could pour the hot sugar mixture over the pretzels and toss, instead of stirring. I don’t love suggesting this becuase tossing hot liquid sugar makes me nervous. If you do go this route, please do so very carefully.
