This BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Grilled Cheese includes the gooey cheesy goodness of a grilled cheese plus deliciousness of a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger. It is the perfect marriage of two of my favorite things.

After making my homemade Sloppy Joes one day, it inspired me to make a BBQ Bacon Skillet Cheeseburger. My teenagers love cheeseburgers, but I do not always like preparing them. This BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger is made by browning the ground beef and then adding the rest of the ingredients just like you would do when making Sloppy Joes.

What ingredients are in skillet BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger?

I used ground beef, onions, bar-b-que sauce, crumbled bacon, and cheese. Skillet BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger includes all the ingredients my family loves on a cheeseburger, but the skillet version is much easier to prepare. This skillet cheeseburger later inspired me to try making a grilled cheese using the same delicious skillet ingredients.

How did I prepare this BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Grilled Cheese?

This grilled cheese includes a slice of cheese on two pieces of bread plus a cup of shredded cheese into the ground beef mixture. For this sandwich to be called a grilled cheese, I wanted it to have lots of stringy cheese. The more cheese, the better in this recipe which is why I added additional cheese before grilling it. Instead of adding crumbled bacon to the skillet mixture like normal, I cooked my Oven Bacon and added a couple of slices before grilling the sandwich.

What is the secret to a grilled sandwich?

I learned this trick years ago watching Chef Wolfgang Puck. He was making hot sandwiches and said he always used mayonnaise because butter burns. Mayonnaise on the outside of the bread gets the sandwich crispy and golden. So, I use mayonnaise on all my hot sandwiches no matter if I am grilling them or baking them in the oven. Every time I use mayonnaise on the outside of my sandwich, the sandwich turns out perfectly crispy and golden just like Wolfgang Puck said.

BUILD A BBQ BACON CHEESEBURGER GRILLED CHEESE

  1. Mayonnaise one side of a piece of bread and add it to a grill or skillet.
  2. Top the bread with a slice of cheese.
  3. Add about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger filling.
  4. Top the filling with two slices of bacon and another piece of cheese.
  5. Place another piece of bread on top.
  6. Be sure to add Mayonnaise on the top piece of bread.
  7. Grilled until golden.

This BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger meat mixture will make about 12 sandwiches.

Tip:  Preparing Bacon in the Oven is the easiest way to prepare bacon. The bacon can be cooking while you are browning the beef. I take the bacon out of the oven and remove some pieces for my husband who likes his bacon limp like in the picture above. I then put the bacon back into the oven to get it harder for the rest of my family.
