Best Burgers In The Air Fryer
Making hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or sliders in an air fryer is my favorite way to cook the tastiest, most tender patties in mere minutes. This quick and easy fool-proof recipe simply combines ground beef with some seasonings and sauce, forms the meat mixture into patties, and lets the air fryer do all the work!
I love the ease and convenience of cooking this burger recipe in an air fryer; it’s the perfect substitute for deep frying or searing on the stove and a great alternative to the grill (especially in the winter).
Filled with flavorful ingredients, these patties are cooked to perfection in the comfort of your own kitchen, and make a fun meal option that you can assemble with a bun and layer with loads of toppings!
What’s better than a burger made in the air fryer? An air fried burger served with a side of Air Fryer French Fries of course!
Why We Love Air Fryer Burgers
- Quick and easy main dish in 20 minutes.
- Uses simple ingredients that you can customize to make your best homemade hamburger.
- Burgers air-fried require less prep work than cooking on a grill, pan frying, or broiling in the oven.
- Easy clean up with little mess.
- Tastes like a restaurant-style hamburger, but made at home.
- Fast, family-friendly protein-packed meal.
- Delicious weekday dinner you can make year-round without worrying about the weather.

Ingredients
- Ground beef: I prefer to use fresh lean ground beef. An 80/20 blend has the right amount of fat to keep the patties juicy without too much grease runoff.
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Soy sauce
- Steak sauce: I also tried this with Worcestershire sauce, which was delicious.
Optional Toppings:
- Potato burger buns: Potato burger buns are delicious, but you can also just use normal burger buns.
- Cheddar cheese: Choose your favorite type of cheese to make a cheeseburger.
- Red onion
- Roma tomato: If you like rounder tomato slices for your burgers, choose a tomato that will give you round slices instead.
- Romaine lettuce: Any type of large leaf lettuce will do here.
Substitutions and Additions
- Tasty Toppings: You can top your burgers with any of your favorite burger toppings. Here are some of my go-to ideas: cheddar cheese, red onion, tomato, romaine lettuce (or any large leaf lettuce), mayo, mustard, ketchup, bacon, pickles, bacon, mushrooms, onion rings, jalapeños, sauerkraut, feta, french fries, relish, eggs, etc.
- Add Some Seasoning: Feel free to add some extra seasoning to your burger, such as minced onion, minced garlic, or even just salt.
- Swap The Sauce: Instead of using steak sauce, you can try barbecue sauce, salsa, guacamole, pesto, or a sauce from your favorite restaurant, or even mix sauces.
- Choose Condiments: Serve your burgers with a side of ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or any other condiment you like.
- Non-Beef Burger: Feel free to use ground turkey or ground chicken instead of beef. You can even make veggie burgers, black bean burgers, or use Beyond Meat for a plant-based option with a similar texture of a classic grilled hamburger.

Cooking hamburgers in the air fryer is a quick and easy, fuss-free way to make the perfect protein-packed meal. Patties cook fast without sacrificing flavor or taste.
- Make The Meat Mixture: Combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, soy sauce, and steak sauce.
TIP: Try to make them about the same size so they cook evenly - Cook: Form patties and place them in a single layer into the air fryer basket. Air fry patties at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 minutes on each side or until cooked to your desired doneness. If you are making cheeseburgers, top with slices of cheddar cheese as soon as you remove them from the air fryer.
Pro Tip: The patties will shrink while cooking. Make them slightly bigger than the burger bun. - Assemble: Assemble each burger by placing the patty on a bun and layering it with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

Tips for Making the Best Hamburgers in the Air Fryer
- If you like your burger to be very well seasoned, double the amounts of seasoning from the recipe.
- This cook time will result in a well-done burger. If you like your burger less done, decrease the
cook time slightly. Use a meat thermometer to check the thickest part of a patty (160°F). - If you don’t want to assemble the ground sirloin into patties yourself, you can find pre-made burgers in the butcher section of your grocery store! This will save you a bunch of time.
- For the perfect evenly cooked burgers press your thumb into the center of each patty so it doesn’t swell in the center during cooking.
- Frozen burger patties can be cooked in the air fryer, but you’ll need to add about 3-5 minutes to the cook time (it just depends on how thick they are.)
- Place the patties in a single layer in the basket to ensure that there is plenty of circulation and the food cooks completely and evenly.
- For easy cleanup, set the patties on aluminum foil and then place it in the air fryer basket.

Storage Tips
- To Store: You can store the cooked burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. However, keep them separate from the burger buns and vegetables.
- To Freeze: You can freeze the burgers for 2-3 months. Stack them with squares of parchment in between so they don’t stick before putting them in a resealable zipper top freezer bag.

An air fryer is a fast and easy way to cook just about anything. When you place your food in a fryer-style basket, hot air rapidly circulates all around the food, making the food crisp, similar to deep-frying, but without the oil.
Yes, frozen hamburgers cook well in the air fryer and you can cook them straight from frozen. Simply add a minute or two to the air frying time to make sure that the burgers reach a safe internal temperature.
I highly recommend flipping your burger in the air fryer at about halfway through to ensure the burger is cooked perfectly on each side.
Because all appliances are different, I highly recommend checking your burgers to make sure the internal temp registers 160 degrees. This recipe air fries burgers at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 minutes per side while others cook at 360 degrees for 5-8 minutes per side.
