½ bag Werther's Original Chewy Caramels
Top with dry cake mix. Smooth with a spatula.
1 box super moist butter yellow cake mix
Mix together the melted butter and milk, slowly and evenly pour over the top of the cake. Try not to leave any dry spots of cake mix.

Place in the oven and let it bake uncovered for 45 minutes. Rotate the pan half way through baking. The cake is done when the sides of the cake are bubbling and it is golden brown on top.

Notes
Tips:
Pick a cake mix without pudding in it. Check the label, because plenty of the super moist boxes have it and it changes how the top sets.
Cut the caramels into three or four pieces rather than halves. Halves stay as firm lumps, small pieces spread out and soften.
Pour the butter and milk slowly and go after any spot that still looks dusty. Dry cake mix will not fix itself in the oven.
Dump cakes are hard to read for doneness, so go by the fruit bubbling around the edges of the pan. Some wet spots and some crisp spots is normal. Oven temperatures drift, so start watching as you get close to 45 minutes.
Storage:
Cover the pan and keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days, and warm it back up before you eat it since the top softens once it is chilled. Reheat single servings in the microwave until hot through. I do not freeze this one, because I have not tested it that way.
