Apple dump cake with fresh apples and spice cake mix is my easy fall dessert. Tart apples and a buttery golden top make it taste like apple pie with almost no work.

Notes
Use tart Granny Smith apples and chop them coarsely so they hold their shape and do not turn mushy. Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix and tilt the pan to cover any dry spots, which keeps the top from baking up powdery. Do not stir once the butter goes on, because the layers are what make a dump cake work. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat individual servings in the microwave.
