Make a Disney Dole Whip at Home!

I am so excited to share this recipe for homemade Disneyland Dole Whip with you today. Disney recently shared the recipe for their famous treat on the Disneyland app. This tangy, sweet, cool, and refreshing treat is the perfect snack for a hot and humid day.

This has to be one of my favorite copycat recipes! The line to get Dole Whip can sometimes be longer than the lines for rides at Disney’s parks. This is more than a soft serve, ice cream, or drink. These are the most refreshing and delicious treats, and now they can be made right from the comfort of home. No need for a trip to Disney World or a long wait in a line.

If you’ve never had a Dole whip before, you are in for a real treat. Get your blender, pineapple, and ice cream, and get ready for a yummy summer drink. Not only will your kids love these but you will, too!

What is Dole Whip?

The Dole Whip is one of the Disney parks’ most iconic snacks! It’s a refreshing treat made using ice cream, along with Dole pineapple and pineapple juice, which is how it got its name.

When enjoying this tropical snack at the Disney parks, you can enjoy it on its own, swirled with vanilla ice cream, or as a float with pineapple juice.

We’re using the official Disney recipe which includes Dole pineapple juice, frozen pineapple chunks, and ice cream to recreate this delicious soft serve at home. While the original recipe is dairy-free, we’ve decided to use regular ice cream. However, it could easily be swapped out to keep it a dairy-free treat (I’ve included the dairy-free instructions below too!).

Either way, these things are seriously so delicious!Dole Whip Ingredients - Pineapple chunks, pineapple juice and vanilla ice cream

Pineapple Dole Whip Ingredients

  • 1 big scoop of ice cream
  • 4 oz of pineapple juice
  • 2 cups of frozen pineapple

Note: The original Dole Whip is dairy-free, so you’ll want to use dairy-free ice cream if you want to make the real thing. You can see below for a dairy-free option.

How to make Dole Whip

Step 1: Add all ingredients to a blender and blend together until it’s a thick drink. This tends to turn out best if the pineapple is half thawed and a little bit softer.

Note: I recommend using a high powered blender to mix this up.ice cream and pineapple in a blender

Step 2: Add your ice cream swirl, make your float, or just serve it up as is. It’s really that simple, and you’re done!

You can serve your whip right away, or put it back in the freezer for about 2 hours to let it set up a bit more and serve later.

Dole Pineapple Whip Variations

Making a Dairy Free Pineapple Whip

  • 1 cup pineapple juice (make sure to freeze in an ice cube tray)
  • 1 Banana, peeled and frozen
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons powdered sugar
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk beverage
  1. Combine the pineapple juice, banana, and powdered sugar in the blender.
  2. Cover and blend until smooth, gradually adding coconut milk and scraping down sides if necessary.
  3. Serve immediately.

Other ways to customize your Pineapple Whip

There are several ways to customize your Pineapple Whip. You can experiment with different fruit flavors, such as mango or strawberry, to create variations of the classic Dole Whip. Additionally, you can add toppings like shredded coconut, fresh fruit, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce to enhance the presentation and taste.

How to Store Pineapple Dole Whip

How long does Dole Whip keep?

In general, homemade Dole Whip can be kept in the freezer for about 1 to 2 weeks. However, for the best taste and texture, it is recommended to consume it within the first few days.

Can I make Pineapple Dole Whip ahead of time?

You certainly can make Dole whips ahead of time, although I don’t recommend it. Making these any more than a couple of hours ahead of time (just for time to set) can change the end result and consistency completely. It won’t be quite so creamy.

If you would like to make it ahead of time, here’s how to do it. Follow the instructions above, and freeze the finished Dole Whip in an airtight container in the freezer for no more than 24 hours.

When ready to serve, I would recommend serving it as a float, by putting scoops of the frozen whip in a glass with Dole pineapple juice.

Dole Whip Serving Ideas

Dole Whip can be served in various creative ways. Some serving ideas include:

  • Scooping the Dole Whip into bowls or cones, just like at the Disney parks.
  • Creating a Dole Whip float by adding a scoop of Dole Whip to a glass of pineapple juice or soda.
  • Making a Dole Whip sundae by layering the pineapple whip with fresh fruit, crushed cookies, or granola.
  • Using Dole Whip as a topping for cakes, waffles, or pancakes to add a tropical twist.
