Broccoli Slaw Recipe

Our easy Broccoli Slaw recipe is a cross between a broccoli salad and a classic coleslaw side; it has a crispy, crunchy base that pairs perfectly with the contrasting creamy broccoli slaw dressing.

A broccoli slaw salad is one of those staple side dishes that tastes delicious when piled a plate beside a protein. Get grilling this summer and serve your slaw with burgers, hotdogs, Grilled Chicken Breast, Grilled Salmon, and Grilled Rib Eye Steak with Ginger Teriyaki Sauce.

Broccoli Slaw Ingredients

  • Broccoli slaw mix: You should be able to find a bag of broccoli slaw at most grocery stores in the produce section.
  • Red onion: The red onion in this slaw adds great flavor, however if you’re not a huge fan of onions, they can be left out. You can also use sliced green onions instead for a little bit more of a mild onion flavor.

Tips & Variations

  • The addition of some sweetened cranberries and walnuts would elevate the flavor and texture of this slaw.
  • Refrigeration is key for this salad. I recommend leaving it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, but a longer chill time will allow all of the ingredients to meld together. I love to let the slaw soak up the dressing as much as possible!
  • Add additional vegetables, like green, yellow, and red bell peppers, or toss in crunchy sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chopped walnuts, almonds, or pecans.
  • For a burst of sweetness, you can add dried fruit to your slaw. Some ideas include dried cranberries, dates, apricots, or golden raisins.
  • For a vegan recipe for broccoli slaw dressing, swap the dairy-based mayo for your favorite vegan alternative.
  • You can replace the sugar with a low-carb sweetener to make this a keto-friendly recipe.

How to Store Broccoli Slaw

  • To Store: Store leftover broccoli slaw in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. It’s also best to store it in the refrigerator between servings to keep it as fresh and crisp as possible.
  • You can double or even triple the dressing and store the extras in a mason jar in the fridge for later use.
